    Maxiell Hasn't Accepted Pistons' Offer

Forward Jason Maxiell hasn’t accepted the Pistons’ three-year, $15 million contract offer, and it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Only a few players from the 2005 draft have even been offered extensions.

Seems like a pretty generous offer to me. Hopefully he will accept it and move on before the October something deadline. We need to sew him up so he won't walk and ending up with one of our rivals.

I hope Max doesn't plan on leaving. He has until Halloween to get it signed. Maybe he's just waiting for the preseason to be over (Oct. 23) to get a feel on the new team before he signs it. I would be really hurt if he left cause he's a big part of our bench. Hopefully he won't end up like Mr. B. Wallace!

Perhaps he's miffed about AJ getting the starting job over him?

I'm sure he can do much better.

Hustle and work wise, i still don't understand how he is not starting over Amir. Because of height??

The last couple of years, the Pistons have lacked offfensive punch off the bench. That's why Stuckey, McDyess, and Maxiel will be the first 3 reserves this season. I bet Maxiel will end up playing similar minutes as Amir.

I agree with Bill (I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit admitting that). I think AJ is a better fit with the starters and J-Max is more valuable coming off the bench. That doesn't mean that AJ is better than J-Max, or even that he'll get more minutes than him.

Maxiell is more offensively polished, which is why we are keeping him with the bench unit.

Our big 4 can take all the shots they want and Amir can fill in the gaps.

I can also see Kwame filling in the 5th starter role, and that definitely doesn't mean KB is better than Max.

The beautiful thing is that if all else fails, we can still put Dyess back in there and go with a full on running 2nd unit. It probably won't ever come to that, but that is our downside.

All I know is that he better re-sign, or our bench is screwed.

We'd have him this year anyway, so that is what is most important. If we lost him next year, I agree that it would be hard to replace him for the same price... which is exactly why he's holding out.

He would be starting on many other teams, so that could also factor into this. However, he needs to consider that Amir/ Kwame don't have the 5th starter spot secured yet, and Sheed/ Dyess are nearing the end of their careers. Detroit is not a bad team to be on for a young big going forward. Also, Dumars has his back like no other GM would.

Why would he jump on this right away? He should take some time to think about it. I am not sure if anyone will pay him more, but wouldn't Pistons be able to match?

I tought we had 2 years left? This year and next year being the matching year.

Probably a good move for him as he will probably not get much less than that if not more. His role is very uncertain right now. If Amir and Kwame have good years then his mins will be way down.

With Flip gone, I thought everybody would be willing to play for less money than they could get elsewhere.

That has to be the case right?

    Flip's gone.

Everything's supposed to get better now.

    What's going on?

I'm pretty sure he becomes restricted and they would be able to. I don't expect him to take this deal, and don't really see what the big deal is if he doesn't. I agree that he likely wouldn't get that much more in free agency anyway.

Amir and Maxi came here the same year. Maxi was older with college experience. So he got the first look.
Amir went to D-L. And added much needed bulk and experience. But some of us here thought/knew Amir has the better upside. I think the cream has risen.

I'll have to see about Amir. Max has served us well.

Indeed he has. Now expect Amir to be a notch better.

    I'm not really surprised.

I am wishing he will accept but should he decide not to, he can be traded. And our bench is not screwed without JMax. A notch lower that it is supposed to be but definitely not screwed.

Last time I checked we still have Dice, Stuckey, Afflalo, and the hullaballoo about Herrmann on that Piston bench. Whatever Kwame and Will Bynum can give us is gravy.

JMax, stay man. You're part of a great thing and you're getting handsomely paid for playing basketball.

Well, if he gets greedy and doesn't want in, then I'm sure we'll manage, and we realize maybe he might not have been as Piston material as we thought he was.

With all that said, I hope he takes it.
