Not a very good comparison there. Turiaf had heart surgery. I am sure his health was discussed during contract negotiations. IMO Max will be paid more that Turiaf.
I don't understand why Max can't see that his agent is playing around with his money. I know that Max feels that he should have the starting spot but I think we need him to come off the bench to energize the rest of our guys off the bench. But I feel this is a stupid decision on his behalf.
If we sign and trade Maxi [at ~$5M with Sheed at $13.6M] we could afford Starbury. Feel free to not respond to this.
JD knows that there are a few GM's that think like him. High trade value for the present which will grow. I would have to think that in a mixture trade the volume will be pumped up. A definitive "no" to his agent a few weeks before the deadline should be a very big clue. This will be a win-win for both sides.
No doubt, I really don't want lose J-Max's power, explosiveness, and athleticism off of our bench... For the longest we've complained about our lack of athleticism at times and now we've finally got guys like Stuck, Maxiel, and AJ who bring that to the table... Just can't let it get away like that folks!
I think JMax might want to reconsider. An anonymous NBA scout's take on him: I think Jason Maxiell might have hit his ceiling last year. He's a tweener, an energy guy who gets exposed when he plays too many minutes. An NBA scout analyzes the Detroit Pistons - 2008 NBA Preview - SI.com
Like the rest of the economy NBA salaries are being devalued. IMO either Jmax isn't happy here (?) or Katz gave him bad advice (such as comparing him to Barkley, when in truth, he is more of a Corliss). Turning the offer down makes no sense. It'll be interesting to see what Curry & Joe do with his minutes before the trade deadline.
I like Maxiel and I hope he re-signs with the Pistons. I dont' see the rationale, however, for him or his agent to sign a deal now. Unless he has a career-ending injury, once this 2008-09 season is over, Maxiel will either get the same offer or a better one. The smart move for JMax is to wait.
That same scout called Kwame Brown our 4th big... because he forgot about Amir Johnson, starter. Nice analysis. How do you write an entire report on the Pistons and forget about a starter?
Joe knows how to give a fair offer. When you have a reputation for doing that it makes for less negotiating and less hard feelings. Good news.
