It's normal for the have nots (and their writers) to be envious of the long time winners... when they see a slip they pile on like like a pack of hungry rats.

What I have enjoyed with the Joe era is his willingness to listen to the fanbase (MC, Hayes, Nazr etc) yet he's bold enough to make the unpopular choice (Stack, Ben, CB etc) where the end result usually makes us admit our quick trigger ways were in error.... I have zero negativity for the CB deal.

If you take a look at other GM's transactions... it might reveal how well Joe has done in comparison.

Currently he is not keeping up with the Jones.
But he stabbed the Bulls in the heart and stole from the Bucks.
But the Celtics got stronger for at least another title run.
Let me know when we win 10 playoff games again. [1 season]

Exactly, I don't know what more Joe can do. If you look at the perennial playoff teams GM's, NOBODY DOES IT BETTER, some do it as well, but nobody does it better. OH, and nobody give me that RC BUFORD (SA) BS. They went to the lottery, got the best PF to ever play the game, now Manu, that was GENIUS. Parker, low risk gamble that paid off - BUT!!! - They damn near screwed that up when they tried to J-Kidd in free agancy, this is the same team that GAVE Scola away FOR NOTHING, boy they sure could use him now. Point is, the last great thing Buford did was draft Manu, and that has been what 7 years.

RC Buford, and don't make me list the reasons why.

Joe did a very good job, but lately it has been declining returns.

Because Joe hasn't been doing much. It is possible that he held the "core" together for too long.

Over this last decade Piston fans have become spoiled ... we expect the Stones to be there every year and that is a very very hard thing to do ... going 6 straight times to the ECF .. twice to the Finals.. Winning one and losing one in the 7th game... I must say The Staff put together a great team ... sadly all things must come to an end.. He's a Great GM... and if he gets them back into the hunt next year or the following year then know one can claim that he isn't one as Common would say "it doesn't take a whole day to recognize sunshine"

also I'd like to say Hi to everyone.. I've been lurking on these forums for about a year now ... I must say this site is active and has high population of people with Basketball smarts.. I really do enjoy the threads on this site... beats some of the other ones I've been to

    Oda, welcome to the forum.
Hey, we have all enjoyed the run that team had. And we are thankful for it. And we do agree that things come to an end. I think that the common opinion here is that Joe maintained status quo for too long. That's what has been disappointing.

Except for me. I believe the core was just starting to find their groove and that they would have dominated the league for the next 3 years had they found a way to get Corliss and Mike James back somehow.

I see where you guys are coming from though. We can agree to disagree.

My vote goes for great GM.Like everyone is saying a lot of people got spoiled with the 6 ECF runs. But why people try to find the bad side of GM when a team goes from hero to zero?Yes maybe Dumars didn't do some needed moves but is hard to know what to do when a team is so successful like the Pistons.Ok Dumars %%%%ed with last years gamble, but he gambled saftly .It's hard to say,if todays moves are bad,but look at the Clippers last season everyone thought that the Clippers will come back to the playoffs but they where the worst team in the league.

Joe is slow. He should have fired Curry in June. Because he is slow he drafts players and signs free agents without a coach in place. Control freak Avery probably doesnt agree with the free agent signings or other moves and is asking for more money. Joe undermined Flip with hiring assistants that Flip probably would not have chosen. Curry was a poor choice from the start. Now Joe has ruined another coach well before the coach has had a chance.

Avery butted heads with Cuban. Avery is a control freak. You saw it as a player and as a coach. That is why he couldn't let Kidd run the team. He know it all. Joe knows it all, too. General managers need coaching input when choosing players. Another coaching diaster.

    Bill Cook - Sporting News

"Dumars had just traded Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson. Even though that was obviously a bad move as far as winning stuff went, at the time Simmons' criticisms seemed unduly harsh given that Dumars had assembled a champion from malcontents, spare parts, and afros. Dumars was thinking 17 moves ahead, or something." The Sporting Blog
