You forgot the addition of Smith. With both, yes.
That's not what Panda was saying. He said swapping Monroe for Rondo makes the Pistons a playoff team.
He was replying to my proposal so I assume he was including Smith. Anyway, not sure if we'd be a playoff team with only Rondo, but he is an elite (top 5) player at his position, whereas Greg is not (IMO). He may become one, time will tell. Whether we get Smith or not, if Rondo was available for Moose I'd do it.
Rondo is a malcontent with the big three. Just think if he had to lose 50 games next to some of Joe's all time mistakes.
Rondo thrived playing for a coach who was a tough Chicago bred PG. Mo Cheeks has the same background to offer.
No it isn't. I said adding Rondo, ceteris paribus, makes this a playoff team. In other words, if no other changes happen to our team, adding rondo makes us playoff bound and that includes Monroe still being on the team.
I love it when people write "ceteris paribus". LOVE IT!
Since Monroe turned down the early extension there may be a chance he is traded. Maybe for Smith or even Rhondo on a sign and trade. Maybe better to overpay now for a proven PF like Smith rather than a develping one like Monroe. a Drummon/Smith front court would not be that bad. Sign one and sign/trade for the other. Get both Smith and Rhondo.
Throw in BOT to make it happen. lol
How much did they offer?
I don't think an extension was even discussed?
Greg Monroe not expecting Pistons contract extension, thinking 2014 free agency | ProBasketballTalk
I think that first sentence is a very important factor and very few have even mentioned it. Monroe is a four and is too soft for the 5 position. This makes me more comfortable when discussing Josh, since Monroe would have to be moved now, or shortly next year. This would help concentrate the talents of Josh into the 4 spot and would hopefully (if Cheeks is strong enough) move him away from the moments he thinks he's another LeBron. Of course, if you have Gay on the wing, then his roaming would be automatically negated except in times that they want to go extremely athletic (Drum, Mitchell, and Josh). Excuse me now, I have to wipe the drooling from my mouth. I would hope that JD spent most of his five hours covering this same factor, the athleticism, not some form of drooling.
Well, it wasn't obvious, was it?
Ain't that the truth.
Makes me ask, would you (and by you I mean everybody on PF.com) be willing to trade Monroe for Rudy Gay if we sign Josh Smith?
I would be very disappointed if we traded Monroe. He's a unique player in this league.
His style of play does not rely on athletic ability or brute force. It's more cerebral and therefore he's got longevity.
Because he doesn't overexert himself, he is less likely to get injured.
He has developed very well in his first 3 seasons and still shows an upward curve. He has shown YOY progress in every statistical category. The only thing that took a dive is his FG%.
He is a very good passer for a big (tied with David Lee for 2nd in the league).
He steals well for a big (2nd in the league).
He rebounds well (11th in the league) and is tied for 9th with Big Al for most double doubles in the league.
His quiet style of play means the Lakers of the world won't offer him max contracts - he's underrated and will be relatively cheaper than other flashy centers.
He is STILL on his rookie contract. There is no way, NO way that you can get comparable talent in return for him.
His style of play (thanks to Frank, at least on paper) complements Drummond's game really well.
The guy gets the job done. He has things to work on for sure. He needs to finish those easy layups and extend his range to 16-18'. Nothing I've seen over the past 3 years tells me he won't be able to do those things. In about another year or two, you are looking at a guy who will deliver you 20/10 with 3 assist 2 steals for about 7-8 years straight.
I wouldn't trade Moose for Rondo or Smith. If Joe pulls that kind of trade, he should be fired on the spot.
No. I like your 3-big rotation of Moose-Smith-Drummond.
We will find ourselves holding a bag of cash looking in. I don't even like rudy.
I never have been that impressed by Smith, do I take him as a 3rd big to rotate with Monroe and Drummond yes.... but We need to keep Monroe
I like getting Josh Smith. I don't particularly care for Rudy Gay.
