There's pretty much a consensus that this is a weak draft overall.

If Detroit doesn't see any significant difference in the players expected to be available from the slots 12-20 it may make sense to move down a couple picks, save some money and bankroll additional picks garnered in trade for future years.

Keep in mind Dumars is trying to keep enough on hand to sign a couple impact players plus bring back McDyess. So what looks like little bits saved here and there could add up to the extra needed to retain Dyess.

Here's the 2008 rookie pay scale. 5 years starting left to right.

I wonder if Minni deal makes sense. Also, is Joe afraid of the Euro centers after the Darko fiasco? I haven't seen the guy, just read about him. Would he be ready to contribute this year or is this another project?

Man, the top rookies really get ripped off. 5 years of being locked into an under market contract.

That is why it makes sense to leave college at the first available opportunity. You get these years out of the way and then you get paid for real when you hit your prime at 25.

He looks like the Greek version of Big Country Reeves.

That guy for the other team who looks like Josh Childress would look good coming off of the Piston bench though.

Hey Carlos. Great to have your insight into the Euro players here on the forum. From the tube link, it is clear Pekovic has great touch, and uses his massive frame to get good position in the paint.

My biggest concern is that he plays way below the rim and many of the shots he put up in that clip would end up in the third row in the NBA. Also, as BDL alludes to, his lack of lateral quickness means he would struggle hedging on pick'n'rolls, when switching onto 4s, and even guarding many of the more athletic 5s. He certainly has the skills no question. But his lack of athleticism would no doubt be exposed.

I am not endorsing this trade, but I don’t hate it either. Very soft hands and seems to have good body control as well. He does not play above the rim, but he has a very quick release which will make up a lot of ground (or vertical). I just want to know he is coming over for sure. We don’t need any 7 foot projects in Europe, we need them here.

It has to be said that I had the same feelings towards Scola in the NBA and he did just fine. It's a very different ball game in Europe and that makes it hard to predict how guys are going to fare in the NBA
