Help send a message to the Washington State Legislators. Let's keep the teams in Seattle! I, for one, want to watch Kevin Durant and Jeff Green in Seattle, and not Oklahoma City! Save The Sonics and Storm Petition
I didn't have anything to do with this... but I agree. I hope they stay. Then I can watch Detroit take little Kevin to school for the next couple of years!
They should try harder to keep the Sonics in Seattle. They were mid-pack as far as pct of tickets sold which is pretty good for a bad team. Near last in overall attendance since their stadium is not very big. Given the alternatives Seattle is by far the largest city with the most capacity to generate revenue. have to get that new stadium built though. I don't feel as though the league owes Oaklahoma anything. They knew the Hornets were going to be there short term.
I would like to see the Sonics stay in Seattle, but not enough to go to the effort of signing a petition. Sorry. Stern doesn't listen to anyone other than the voices in his head anyway.
I love Seattle and hope the Sonics will stay. Besides, it is one of the great nicknames with Boeing in the area. Won't work in Oklahoma City. They would have to become the Oklahoma City Cowpokes or Wranglers or Steers or some other riduculous country nickname that doesn't belong in the NBA. Noting beats those green and yellow uniforms either.
this is a good idea, I would sign, but feel unworthy putting my name on a petition that already has the signature of Kevin Durant.....................
Bump. 397 Signatures Signature 170: Former Hawks, Pistons, and Grizzlies Center Ivano Newbill He Said: Keep the teams in Seattle. It is helping the economy and people to make a living and survive. This is, in fact, from the real Ivano Newbill. I emailed him, and he signed it!
I've all ready written my letters. If the Sonics leave Seattle, then I'm spending my winters back in DC.
Nope They should move the Sonics to Buffalo. Buffalo was once a great NBA franchise led by the likes of AD, until they moved the team to San Diego. AJ, Lebron. Durant and Gordon, what a great rivalry for the next 10 years. All in the same divison. Move the Supersonics to Buffalo N.Y and bring back NBA basketball to that great city on the Lake, Buffalo N.Y.
We Can't Even Get to 700 Signatures Come on people, step up and sign the petition! Do you want to see the Seattle Sonics become the Oklahoma City Oil Tycoons?
I've been to Seattle quite a few times, and it doesn't seem like they are that into the NBA. Also, they have a strange hatred of j-walking. Maybe they can get a hockey team and convert to Canadianism.
You are right about both of these things. The NBA fans here seem to be a small, die-hard group of born and raised Seattleites (not as common as you would think), or transplants from basketball cities. The jay walking thing is out of control here. I was baffled when I first arrived to find 10 people on one side of an intersection, 10 people on the other side, and not a car in sight. Weird.
I have to admit, as a Seattle resident, that TaShawn is right about both these things. The ironic part is, our hockey team is moving out of Seattle in to Kent, a good ways out from downtown.
The Sonics arena situation looks like it may be a big fight. The owners have asked for arbitration, and the city has hired a team of legal experts to enforce the lease. Eventually, Stern is going to have to step in to resolve the situation. Although I would hate to lose the team, I'm beginning to side with the city on this one. Other than get lucky with a high draft pick, the Sonics really haven't done anything to improve the team. They made several moves to cut salary, and insist they need a new arena to be profitable. Neither of these moves improves the product offered to the consumer.
