I really love the keeper league with auction idea. This makes fantasy General Management a whole new game! Will we have a keeper scrubs league for our kids/ developing talent?
My random, non-binding thoughts: - I'm cool with Webz as commish (anything to keep Darth and Bill out of it). - Twelve teams would be ideal for me, but 14 wouldn't kill me. - I've never done a keeper league or auction before, I say heck ya to both! - I like the idea of PF.com fantasy experience being the deciding factor if we have too many applicants, but I don't think their should be a difference between Advanced vs Novice.
yay for Webz as commish nay on auction: Its way too involved. We barely get everyone together. 12 teams only for the first year. We can expand the next year. or not. I think we should do post count senority and involvement in fantasy leagues to determine if you get a franchise or not. those are my votes. I was looking into software that we could get to do this but no luck yet.
Poke around fanstar.com. I set up a fake pistonsforum league just to check it out. it looks ok . It can handle keeper leagues, auctions, h2h and a whole bunch of other things.
I have never heard of these things before. My experience does not stretch beyond the 1 novice and 2 adv years I played on yahoo with you guys. I kind of like the idea of an auction. Namely since so much is at stake. Last year we were able to get everyone together for our 16 team league so 12 ( or 14 ) should be able to happen.
Auctions, nah.... Don't like em'. Takes too much coordination. You might want to be careful making too many changes to the existing format as the learning curve of managing a keeper league with a new fantasy b-ball engine might be enough of a headache. And that's my two cents. BTW, looks like I've been asked nicely to step out of my Commish seat. What happened to my retirement party? lol.
Well, nothing's been solidified yet. In the staff version of this topic, the keeper league idea died. However, I like the fanstar.com options and I was looking for something that can handle what we need. It would be a great opportunity to try it out.
No slight intended Mo. I think we were all under the impression that the advanced league (which you headed) and the keeper league (which Webz brought up) were two entirely different leagues. Either one of you guys would be great as commish, IMO.
I'm cool both ways. I was just kidding, really. I'd be down to let Webz give it a shot. New fantasy b-ball engines are scary though. Remember NBA.com? Yuck... lol.
Keeper league is a great idea. It will infuse new life into our fantasy basketball league. I'll check out fanstar.com and let you know my take. When I looked for keeper leagues last year I was unable to find one that did not cost money. It would be really cool if this one satisfied our needs.
Nope. That's one of the reason why I nixed the deal (finding a keeper league) last year. There was so much anguish over the failed NBA.com move that it made me gun shy.
I don't know. Whatever you guys want to do. I thought you would be busy with the advanced league and I threw Webz name out there since he had originally brought up the idea.
Well, if there is an advanced league and we can't do keeper on Yahoo, I may opt for the Yahoo league instead. This makes a big difference to me.
Does a keeper league mean that your season doesn't end at the all-star break? That has always bugged the heck out of me.
The way I see it there is nothing preventing us from jotting down our rosters and moving to a new site if a better one is found. Just re-draft your old roster on the new site.
