It's about time someone really put the blame on the real problem! True Blue Pistons: Lions follow a blueprint for disaster
Finally...Someone who really cares about the sorry condition of the Lions. I get tired of people who say this and that guy are good and we're only 1 or 2 players away. Sad, but the national media has seen this for years.
Any fan of football , casual or fanatic knows what Langlois was saying, but unfortunately for the long time Lions fans Ford and Millen don't. I watched the replay of the Lions-Packers game yesterday and was disappointed that the Lions players seem to be just going thru the motions and the Packer players were a step faster on both the defense and offense. Yeah the Lions fought back, but then old man Kitna just gave it away in those last 5-6 minutes with those pics.....There has got to be a younger QB on that team that can do better than Kitna. If the Pack could let go future HOF Favre for a younger guy in Rodgers, why can't Millen and Marenelli see the writing on the wall?? Either Ford should have fired MM 5 years ago or MM should have been a man and resigned before it got this bad. Any self respecting GM or person with authority would have. Maybe someone else would have hired him in some football capacity, but now when he does go, who will hire him now? His so called player and even broadcast legacy has been tarnished by his management of this team and it's consistent year to year failures. Enough is enough. If they start off 0-5 this season he needs to go. That will be one true act by Ford that may jump start this team. If they fail to win more than 6 games this season he needs to resign in January. If Ford likes him that much, give a him a job in the auto division.
He already did. Since Millen had done such a fine job with the Lions, WCF extended his contract a few years ago and asked him to style a new crossover vehicle called the 'Flex'. Perhaps you've seen some of them on the road...
Those Russ Thomas years were bad. Our record against the Purple People Eaters was 5 - 35 - 2 in that 35 was a 0-14 run. 7 years we didn't beat them.
They had our number. I'll never forget that. I hated them. But that aside, this is worse. The entire league is kicking Detroit's butt. Plus when was the last time the Lions won in Green Bay? Not since they've had Farvre, at least. It would be so much fun to have a competitive football team now and then. Under this ownership, it's hopeless.
One of the best years over the last 50 was 1970, when the Lions went 10-4. We won our last 5 games of the regular season by beating 5 divisional leaders in a row. We also went 0-2 against the 12-2 Vikings that season. Can you imagine a team so bad that you long for the days of 10-4, being dominated by one team, and losing in the first round of the playoffs (Dallas)....
The pass hit him right in the hands. The guy had stoney fingers that year. He just couldn't make the hand grab. The frustration of the Lions is summed up in the moment that Landry falls over in the endzone...A safety for the other team, and then we bring in Bill Munson. I long for the days of LESS frustration...
Earl had beaten his man. If he doesn't bat it up it's not intercepted. Back then no one could do a one handed grad. Earl had weak hands anyway.
