ha ha- I read this today also, and thought "WHAT A FOOL" 2 rings. please. Stephon will never win a ring. KG has a man crush. LOL
There are consequesnces to making over 20mil/yr on a small market franchise. He wanted the payday so he got what he wanted. If you want that kind of cash then you need a big market which can afford some lux tax. But Garnett does not want a trade.
Or at least consequences to working for a franchise that torpedoed itself in the Joe Smith deal. Only thing I don't understand about the man is his loyalty - he's been there what, 11 or 12 years, and they're no closer to making a run than they were in year one. @RM - only fool I see is one of the great players of our time being systematically stripped of the opportunity to try to become one of the great players of all time, and not making a bigger stink about it.
If I recall correctly, KG did give money back a few years ago (perhaps deferred?) so the Wolves could add talent. Kevin McHale just flat out is a bad GM. How many trades has he made and won? How many top notch draft picks have the Wolves turned out? They've had their bad luck, but man, KG make the Knicks an instant contender..
DBA- I'm dogging him because of the "we would have won a couple rings" statement. Crying over Stephon leaving after all these years is pretty silly. I don't remember him making any public appeals back when Stephon left. As I recall, they had beef. Stephon wanted out. KG is a fine player who fades late and often in big games. Blaming McHale is too easy.
Easy maybe, but surely appropriate. When the best management manages to surround their superstar with is Cassell, Sprewell, Hoiburg, Madsen, and Olowokandi, then surely someone isn't making the best decisions.
Sounds to me like KG doesn`t have an eye for talent. To cry over Marbury leaving and to say he was the answer is like slapping Casell in his face. With a player of KG`s caliber it seems to me he alone should be able to go out and attract some good NBA talent to come and play with him in Minny. He may not be the leader all have come to believe...............
Maybe KG has a point tho...didn't they get close one year?
Lost to the Lakers in '04 with a 59 and 23 regular season. Would have been interesting for the Pistons and Wolves to have squared off that year in the finals.
OK so they weren't that close.
plenty of blame to go around in Minn. I just don't like to hear 20 million dollar players dogging their teams commitment to winning.
That "like a woman who’s trying to get pregnant" analogy is...a bit ridiculous. KG did have a great quote a few years ago during a TNT interview with Craig Sager. He had obviously saved up this line, inspired by the bizarre colors that Sager always wears on the sideline at games: "You're like frosted Lucky Charms with those colors, man. You're magically delicious."
It's weird isn't it? I've also read any number of "expert" ESPN columns dogging KG because he wasn't more vocal about where the franchise was going and what sort of changes they needed to make. Damned if you do...
Did he really? I was not aware of that but it does seem like his salary was larger at one time. Still, its going to top out at 24 mil 2 years from now. I have no idea how McHale keeps his job. Firing him is not even an option over there.
DBA- true, true. I prefer players to play and let GM's do their thing. Same for coaching- let the coaches coach and stop bothering the GM. (hello, LB). If KG steps up in the 4Q and starts dominating games when it's clutch time then I would feel like he's earned the right to complain. Right now, I think he overpaid and overrated. and def not pregnant. :P
Because he spreads the defense?
That's a great quote!
