Wouldn't just awarding draft picks based on the worst record in the L eliminate tanking except for maybe a few teams? Isn't it the chance of winning the lottery that makes teams tank. Teams aren't going to tank to go from 8th to 7th.

I don't recall the Rockets, aka the team that caused the implementation of the lottery, going to any great lengths to get the number one pick.

I really don't think that players tank. They might let a small injury sideline them when they might otherwise fight through it, but I also doubt there are many faked injuries. Basically, they do what is in their best interests. That includes boosting their stats and protecting their health. When they are in position for the playoffs, that includes making a name for themselves (through individual accomplishment and team accomplishment). In those situations, they may play through severe pain (think of Tiger Woods in the 2008 US Open with the broken leg, Isiah with the sprained ankle, or MJ with the flu).

It's when the coaches start playing the deep bench that things get fishy.

Am I the only one who kind of like tanking? It makes the second half of the season atleast somewhat interesting for the sucky teams.
