I have my fingers crossed that Curry is gone.

Laimbeer would be a huge step up from Curry. Laimbeer has proved he can win (as a player and as an WNBA coach). Curry has proved....well, nothing.

I don't understand why JoeD didn't look at him ahead of Curry in the first place. I doubt he'll end up with Detroit though.

Don't have a link but watch my word, Laimbeer will be on the Pistons coaching staff come October 2009.

Let's hope so. Maybe he can join as an assistant and then become the coach-in-waiting.

Just look at Rick Carlisle, Larry Brown, Flip Saunders..all great coaches but strong personalities. All were fired...Laimbeer has too strong of a personality for Joe...Seems like Joe prefers puppet coaches...

I heard Flip say something along the lines of "I'm glad I had a chance this season to sit back and see things from this perspective because it showed me that what I was doing was right." Sounds like a statement against whoever (probably Pistons front office).

We need a professional coach along with a good group of players..Get rid of Curry...If Joe wants to coach he should do it from the bench not through a puppet coach.

I hope so. Bad Boy Bill would be a HUGE improvement over Curry. I love what he's done with the Shock. There's talk he could go to Minny, in which case (correct me if I'm wrong) McHale would be his boss? No way he'd go for that, right?

Flip Saunders is what he is. A middle of the pack players' coach.

I think now that there are no players around nor title aspirations that this would be a good time to bring a coach in who players would respect.

The issue is when you do it so early in the WNBA season, some GM in the NBA may have had discussions with him and wanted him there for part of the draft process??

We can only hope that this is not going to happen and Joe does add him to the Piston staff for future considerations.

I noticed when watching the Ring ceremony last week, Bill only briefly patted Mrs. D where everyone else including Mahorn hugged her.:stirthepot:

Man, tough loss for the Shock. But, the timing of it really implies that he's got a coaching gig already lined up. I certainly hope he's not brought in as an assistant to Curry. That would be dumb as all the players would know who the real boss is (will be eventually).

I hope it's the Pistons he's taking over. Although, maybe SVG is about to be kicked out and Laimb's going to join old rival Ewing in sunny Florida? Since he announces his resignation the day after Orlando loses.

I sure hope you're right. My guess is that he is going to join another team's squad as an assistant, move up to head coach, and that losing him will come back to haunt Joe D. almost as much as drafting Dorko.:yellowprison:

It is possible Laimbeer had made a commitment to Bill Davidson to stay with the Shock until the WNBA got on its feet. Knowing how Mr D felt about loyalty, quitting last year may have been a sure way to never work for the Pistons organization again. This leaves a respectful amount of time after Davidson's passing and the Shock roster is in place for this season.
If Laimbeer (and I hope, Mahorn) are on the sidelines for the Pistons next year I will Tivo every game just to replay Laimbeer berate the idiot NBA refs over and over. :hoops::hoops::):):)

Interesting. Is this just a case of Bill not being polite?

Or did he not want to tip his hand that he was on track for a job with the Pistons?

Or did he know that he was heading for a job with a different organization and therefore wanted to distance himself from Mrs. D?

Or maybe Bill just doesn't care for hugging in general?

Dre...if we can find someone on the forum with some expertise in body language we may get an idea of what is going to happen.

To this point, I've stayed away from the "Hire Laimbeer" talk that many of us have pimped over the last few years.

...well, I'm TOTALLY on board now!

I think in recent years, the Piston roster might have had some pesonality clashes with Laimbs. I couldn't ever visualize guys like Chauncey, Sheed, Ben and/or even Dyess playing for Laimbeer. Now that those guys are (or apparently will be) gone, I think that the timing is absolutely right for this move.

    Joe...
Re-assign Michael Curry to a position in the front office somewhere.
    HIRE BILL LAIMBEER!

I think we could come up with some good jobs for Curry in the Pistons organization. Not necessarily in the front office...but there has to be many jobs he could fill.

I wouldn't read that much into it. He was always subdued during the WNBA championship celebrations, too.
