“It’s disappointing that Bill has decided to step down as head coach and general manager of the Detroit Shock,” said Wilson."

Would he say that if he thought Bill was going to join the Pistons? I think no way...

He said that he shouldn't have started this season as his heart is in getting back to the NBA as a coach or assistant but right now he does not have an offer on the table from Joe or any other team. He said that Joe' has enough coaches in place. Dam you Joe if you are afraid to get rid of Curry right now, at least get rid of Dave Cowens and open up a spot for Bill....

He said has spoken to Joe about opportunities around the league and if he is ready for the challenge.

edit: ^ Darth beat me to it

The way that Tom sounded is almost like Lambs may be leaving the entire Palace Sports and Entertainment Fam. That doesn't sound promising.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into it. :D

I hope I'm wrong and he will be with the Stones in some capacity.

My money is on Bill coaching for another NBA team next season... at least as an assistant. Would like to see him with the Pistons but do not think it will happen.

    :(

Don't play with my emotions like that! LOL

I see this as a missed opportunity since we hired Curry instead of Lambs last summer. I'm still salty about that and was hoping that Joe saw the light and decided to correct the mistake by hiring the man who deserved the job.

I man can dream right? :D

There is a huge difference between coaching in the NBA and the WNBA. I'd rather Bill cut his teeth on another team. I'd rather Bill coach the Pistons AFTER he has proven himself. This is the exact same reason why I was against the Curry situation. Detroit is suppose to be one of the class fanchises of the league. That is, before Joe decided to hand the reins over to a rookie coach and trade away his mvp  to Denver. Make no mistake. Laimbeer is a Piston. The timing is just not right. Timing is everything.

With Joe it is about missed opportunities coaching wise.

At the end of the 2005 season, he could have possibly hired Phil Jackson ( and hooked him up with one of Mr. D's daughters (the actress), but Jerry Buss's daughter offered more so he Phil went back to the Lakers. He could have hired Nate McMillen then too, but with Flip being fired earlier by the T-wolves and hanging out in the Palace parking lot as a valet for two months, the job was waiting for him, so both Nate and Phil signed elsewhere.

In 2008 he could have hired Avery, JVG or Laimbeer, but went with Curry because...???:confused::noidea:

Should have fired Flip the year before, sucked it up and grabbed Larry back...ala Phil going back to the Lakers...

Because the Finals just ended and it gives you the entire off season to prep with your new team, including drafting who you want.

Either way, it's very weird to plan for the next season and then suddenly retire.

    FIRE CURRY JOE!!!

IMO, I don't think that's the best way to look at it. This IS the same franchise that hired Dumars (who went back on his word and actually did hire someone with no experience) sight unseen and the same with Curry and with regard to Laimbeer he at least has SOME body of head coaching work to view prior to getting the job. If this team won't give him a shot, that really says something about how much loyalty this franchise shows.

It seems like a whole lot of "You scratch my back...and I'll scratch mine." here.

Yeah, but if you're getting a new job, you don't quit the old one until you're sure you have the new one (this could be different, however)....and if you're going to take a new job, you plan your schedule around the new job, not the one you're leaving. It seems to make sense if he wasn't sure what the deal was until after the Finals ended, when most NBA teams can actually start putting their pieces in place.
