Agreed, just hope folks don't "hate" if he doesn't start as a 20-10 guy from day one, but I think he's a keeper and a piece to the puzzle. Might be some really ugly nghts this year with him, but going to be fun to watch him learn the pro game. I really think he can end up being a 15-10-5 type guy for us.
He's getting the ball more now, but he's got no teammates so they're starting to trap him when he touches it. This game and toward the end of the last game are the first two that he has really started to look like a player. I just hope we feed him the ball during the regular season, because he won't look productive if he's just playing the Jonas/Max/Ben role on offense (clean up guy). EDIT: As I type, he's really taking over. With the J, in the post, off the dribble, passing. Pretty impressive.
I like how he is playing through the double and triple teams. He got more aggressive the more they came at him. Maybe the problem in earlier games was that he was deferring to much to the other guys on the team. He certainly is not afraid to take that free throw line jumper, or to try to put up a hook with 3 guys hanging off him. What I like is, he is passing it when covered if a teammate is in position to score. He's going to get guys like JJ and Ben easy hoops with plays like that.
It would be really wonderful if he works out well. My questions have been whether the bball IQ outweighs the below average athleticism in the big league. Don't know the answer yet, but you'd except a legit NBA big man to look very good in summer league. Nice to know he is at least looking like one of the best players out there.
Yeah, this Monroe's best game tus far in the Summer League games. Looking forward to see him playing with the regulars. WWhat is disappointing is Joe Dumars is soooo out of shape.. I hope he is not getting lacksadaisical and just plain old lazy due to weight issues. I really didn't notice his weight that much until I was watching the Miami game and he dad a huge bucket of popcorn and a gallon drink, he was eating that popcorn like 40 going west. Reminded me of the Klumps. He needs to get on that Tommy Lasorda regimen soon.
Yea, that last play where he dribbled out of the trap, and found Jonas at the hoop was impressive (too bad Jonas got swatted).
^^ Yeah, that was really nice. His dribbling and speed have been the things that have stood out for me. I think he'll be solid for a long time. The athletic guys you have to worry about more. Monroe is similar athletically to Duncan, but FASTER. Greg will be our "Big Fundamental," lol. I'm guessing 14-15 /7-8/ 2-3 per game his rookie year. I bet he stabilizes around 17-18ppg and 9 boards with 3-4 assists thrown in as the years go by. What's terrific about him is that he will command a double team, which will showcase his passing ability kicking out to Gordan and co. from deep and also a lot of inside dunks/layups for everyone else. I think the Pistons will be MUCH more fun to watch going forward, a lot more ball movement.
With the exception of Monroe in this game, Daye and JJ, all of these guys look like bums. What a lousy collection of guys to play with your lottery pick big man.
