I totally agree that loyalty should not be expected both ways. That Orlando player was an example of loyalty gone wrong.

I also agree that it was stupid for the Pistons to try to be more like Phoenix back in 05-07. - A team that never made it past the 2nd round. But I don't think San Antonio would have been much without Duncan and Parker. They have been the 2 consistant factors throughout and in watching them intensly durning the playoffs I see its still the case. If both have bad games - they lose.

The Pistons never had the luck San Antonio had in finding 2 gems in the draft who went on to play long healty careers. We can't buy a friggen break in the lottery and the one year they were in they drew a Tim Duncan.

Agreed, he has essentially been their Isiah Thomas.

I DO think we could have extended our run, though, if Joe hadn't tried to fix something that wasn't broken.

I have wondered. If we had drafted Duncan - would Pistons have tried to force him out once he hit mid 30's in age?

No, of ACTUALLY contending for titles and potentially winning more. Not just being a team that makes the playoffs, but isn't an actual threat.

YES. He would have been "aging" and his skills would have "declined" ...at least...that's the line we'd keep repeating.

That run was over and you know it. The team got happy and fat and tried to "flip the switch" but lacked the hunger.

100% disagree...They crap canned LB and hired Flip to to compete with an imaginary league "transition." THAT's what killed their run.

You don't make it to game 7 in the NBA Finals when you're happy and fat...You also can't just hire anybody to take over a team that's been to two straight Finals. How do you expect a coach that has barely gotten his ass out of the 1st round to come in and tell a roster full of guys who've already won it all what they need to do differently? Even IF you want to say there was no possible way LB could have been back for year 3, you don't hire someone like Flip to coach that crew. That was a failure from day one AND the real reason their run ended. Alas...

While I tend to partially agree, who was out there that could have been hired? Also, am I incorrect in assuming that it was not Joe's firing but Bill D.'s?

I agree with you on who's decision it was to can LB, but I think Joe decided on Flip, in large part.

Secondly, I don't think the absence of an obvious answer doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a BETTER answer. I'd have to do a little bit more research on who DIDN'T have a job at that point, but Flip was clearly NOT the right choice even BEFORE the choice was made.

oh god....stop it, stop it, stop it.....I don't want to go back down this rabbit hole!!! No!!!

I agree, at this point it is water under the bridge, there were multiple discussions. The way the characters on that team were set up they needed a huge presence on the bench. Someone like LB, Jackson, Riley. And while I didn't completely agree with Bill D. I still hate Larry for the good thing that was destroyed. I hope he has regrets.

Note to Pistons management. Do not exepect a mid 1st round pick to replace an all-star caliber player from a championship team. Should be a no-brainer.

CORRECTION: Secondly, I think the absence of an obvious answer doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a BETTER answer.

Lets not think about all that old stuff now. We have lots of good things to focus on instead and looking forward is starting to be exciting again.

Does anybody agree with me that Darko was a really awful pick?

All I'll say is we know for sure that we won title with him, we can't say for sure a title would have won if we went in a different direction... We can fight all day but nobody can state with 100 percent certainly what would have happened if we had gone another direction.
