Again..that doesn't stop him from just not doing the interview. Do it AFTER your work is done...what purpose is served by appearing to openly lie about your plans?

When he grants an interview he doesn't know what questions are going to be asked. If he declines the interview, then we're on him for not saying anything. This can be spun multiple ways. I've seen managers running into problems when talking about potential trades that don't happen.

I don't know if anyone, at least around here, has ever gone in on Joe for not saying anything. Besides, he could always use the old GM standby of, "We don't discuss trade rumors."
Maybe it's just me, but I fail to see how lying is the only option here.

Another important point is that we don't know what exactly transpired. It is possible that Jennings wanted a 4-year deal worth approx. $50 mil and Joe wasn't interested, so he said nothing is going on. The following day Jennings said that 3-$24 deal is fine and Hammond contacted Joe. Obviously, lying is never good, but maybe, just maybe Joe wasn't lying?

Don't get me wrong. I have no ability to know whether or not Joe Dumars, in fact, lied. It just seemed awfully suspect to have his comments turn out not to be the case in less than 24 hrs after they were printed. Perhaps I should not have labelled it as a "lie." "Appearing to be" and "actually being" are two very different things....I probably should have been more clear about that part of my argument. It SEEMS as though an untruth was told, from my perspective.

Misdirection is a key offensive strategy.
Gotta throw Tayshaun Prince-style pump fakes every chance you get to keep people guessing when you're trying to make roster moves.
You're an educated basketball fan. Do you honestly believe Joe when he says anything remotely positive about Rod Stuckey? As much as he wants to say something like "Time and time again, Rodney goes out there and makes me look like a complete idiot!" - he can't.

I think Mikhail is correct. Situations change. The same thing happened with the Tigers yesterday. Dombrowski said he wasn't looking for a shortstop. Later that night, he trades for a shortstop.

Is there a 0% chance of Sheed coming back?

Last year in 21 games (per 36 min):
    17.8 points
    10.1 rebounds
    1.6 steals
    1.8 blocks
    16.7 PER

He went out with a foot surgery, which seems like a bad way to go out.

I'm not saying that he'd be great or anything, but who would we actually pickup who would be better?

Yeah its a 0%. I remember that it was a high risk injury - it would take ages to heal and have a really high chance of reinjury. I think he works perfectly as a coach anyway.

For a nostalgia hit, sure. Throw him, Drum and Smith out there in the front court and lets see if we can show the league some more 70 point games.

Are we talking about scoring here?
