It easily could. New GM who has done a pretty good job so far with that team might want to get rid of bloated contracts and Rudy Gay is certainly that, especially after the year he had.

As for how I feel about Rudy Gay on the Pistons? Well, I mean, ehh. The biggest fear is the Pistons trapping themselves unnecessarily in average. I liked what Memphis did dumping him at the deadline last season, and a deal with Detroit for him would be another dump. Cap space doesn't mean turn into the trash dump.

He's certainly talented and I am encouraged to see some life in the Pistons after all these years dormant, but it seems like to make a splash means to take a gamble. Not convinced a splash is necessary this year, but that's easy to say from behind a monitor.

Rudy Gay fits what the Pistons need more than Iggy or Smith. They wouldn't be forcing anything. His $$ doesn't scare me for some reason. 2 years? That's nothing.

Bringing Charlie V back home to Toronto would be a cannonball-like splash for their new GM.

I'm having a tough time with Smith. I don't want to bring him here without a clear and major role for him. That 32 minute per game stuff is the same thing being said when it was Rip and AI.

Rome was not built in a day.

I start him (Smith) along side Monroe and bring Drum off the bench. I just love the idea of a 3 big rotation of Smith, Monroe and Drummond.

The Rondo thing is what excites me. That Celtics/Nets trade hasn't been finalized though, so I can't do it on NBA Trade Machine. The proposed deal I read about was something like Monroe for Rondo and Gerald Wallace's contract.

If we can do that and then send Stuckey and Charlie-V to Toronto for Gay.
Then sign J. Smith (we'd still have enough cap-space to do so)

    C: A. Drummond, B. Wright, S. Kravtsov
    PF: J. Smith, T. Mitchell, J. Jerebko
    SF: R. Gay, G. Wallace, K. Middleton
    SG: K. C-Pope, K. Singler, K. English
    PG: R. Rondo, B. Knight, P. Siva

That's one hell of a team. I'm sure we'd have to give up some picks too, and having Wallace's contract on the books for two years sucks. But man. Imagine Rondo running the floor throwing oops to Drummond and JSmith. KCP camping out on the perimeter knocking down shots. Gay doing his thing. Decent bench - though we'd still need to sign a center (B. Wright?).

We wouldn't be able to sign Smith after that trade. How are you going to send $4M to Boston , take back $21M and then have any cap space left over? We only have about $20M in cap space snd that trade eats up about $17M of it. It's Rondo OR Smith in that scenario.

How could you possibly make a better offer than Stuckey and BoT?

Actually it might....... We traded Ben Gordon for Corey Maggette AND gave away a pick to do it. This would make them players in next years free agent market AND set them up to get a high lottery pick in the SUPER-HYPED 2014 draft. Assuming that's what they want to do.

CV + Sickey = Rudy Gay? I guess. Then sign and trade Josh Smith, 5 years-$70M, with Jonas going to Atlanta. Calderon 3 years-$21M.

PG: Calderon - Knight - Siva
SG: KCP - Knight - English
SF: Gay - Middleton - Singler
PF: Smith - Monroe - Mitchell
    C: Monroe - Drummond - TRG

IF Knight develops and KCP can come into the league locked and loaded, That team can really compete for home court advantage in the playoffs!

    Quick update on Iguodala:

Looks like the Kings pulled their offer of 52-56 Mil for Iguodala. His market value may have just went way down, good news for the Pistons.

The Raptors probably looking for some players with more skills than the Collider and BoT....they may be hard move as a package deal...

Also considering KGREG's response...why would you trade a bigger player (6' 11") in Monroe who's only 3 years in for a chance to sign an older (9 yrs pro)/slightly shorter (6' 9") player with exactly the same numbers and tie up a HUGE portion of your salary cap in the process. How does that HELP you?

I'm not one of the folks on here who wail about "small ball," but I can't see how getting rid of a young excellent big man is a plus.

First off, it's not fair to compare a guy's regular season to another guy's playoff season.
Secondly, Smith is a considerably better defender with better offensive range.
Lastly, Smith is far more athletic and, depending on what you want to do with the team, could be a significantly better fit.

Neither one of them is particularly efficient offensively, and the Pistons would be better off not having to rely on either one on that end, frankly. But Monroe had the lowest +/- on the team last year (aside from Stuckey), and part of that is because he's an efficient shooter that can't play defense.

I hope that changes, but right now, it's no contest.
