Jonas would have a better chance inside the whale.
We'll probably be better than 3 other EC teams.....

The first step is to use the amnesty. Which way do you go?
    1. Ben Gordon: $25.6 million over the next 2 years
    2. Charlie Villenueva: $16.64 million over the next 2 years
    3. Rodney Stuckey: $17 million over the next 2 years

Why even list Stuckey on there? He has clearly played much better than both of those 2 players.

There is no real cap room value in amnestying Chaz right now. If Max opts in we'd be somewhere at $56M in salaries with Chaz $8M gone. With $3M set for the picks we are almost at $60M anyway.

    CV all the way.
I don't think Rodney can be amnestied.

    What?

How is this even a decision. We get rid of Ben Gordon. Someone will pick him up and pay for a bit of the salary. It should give us a few million to do our thing in the FA market.

I am in two minds about Maxiell. I think he might leave.

I don't see any possibility of Max opting out.
    Why would he?
Nobody is going to pay him more next year and nobody is going to offer him more than Joe Dumars the following year.

If a team offers Maxiel more than $5 million this summer, more power to them.

Everybody in the forum is a witness to JDs generous contracts. Max stays.
Also I don't see the amnesty being used anytime soon.....

Max will be 30 next year. Considering Macklin is making a case, CV is back, and that we are likely to draft another big this summer, he'll probably play less next year. He had a decent year and his stock is at its highest now. So Maxiell will probably opt out if there's a chance that he'll get a 3-4 year deal at about $3M, which isn't unrealistic. Next year, he may only be worth half that, and he might be looking a 1-year contract at veteran's minimum.

No sir, if a deal comes where Max gets a 3-4 year deal, he'll definitely opt-out. The question is, if that deal will come from anybody but Joe.

    Max currently wears Pistons gear.
Joe has a serious weakness for dudes in Pistons gear.

I expect Joe to offer JMax a contract extension THIS summer for an additional 2 seasons at around 4 mil per.
I can't wait to read the article that quotes Dumards saying stuff like: "We need Jason's toughness." "He's a big part of what we're trying to accomplish here in Detroit." We need to get bigger and stronger in the interior and Jason helps us do that." ...blah ...blah ...blah.

Pistons can make the playoffs, if they switch to the triangle offense...........

Very true, but at some point we have to make a move toward players with longer necks.

Roy Hibbert has a long neck.
    He had a good year.

Tim Duncan might be the best long-necked player of all time.

Yes, but you never know when he will go to sleep again.

Having said that, I agree with everything you said. Dumars cannot offer Maxiell another contract. He simply cannot. Max should know this. His stock is high. He can get a back up PF role and a multi year deal. Its unlikely he will have another breakout season again.

Why couldn't Joe offer a contract extension to a 30 year old starting big man? We have a shortage of bigs and Ben is retiring.

Just offer him a slightly below market contract and hope that he takes it.

Maxiel is a 11th or 12th player on a good playoff team. That's not worth $5 million per year. Time to move forward, not wasting money on blind loyalty.
