James' career defensive rating is 110 to Bynum's 112 (i.e. both sucky).

Both have 1.2 steals per 36 min in their careers.

Offensively, James was also superior with 15.0 points per 36 vs. Bynum's 14.9.

Here is an analysis of Mike James from Mike James - Hoopedia

It is a wiki, so you can probably go on there and make an edit to set the record straight.

Probably a good idea. James and Hunter were known as a pair of defensive guards that other teams certainly did not want to see on the court. Anyone who watched our championship year of 2004 surely appreciates how good James was defensively. As far as what he did the rest of his career before and after he was a Piston - I was not following him.

Like Bynum, James was not drafted and played some European ball before he got his break in the NBA.

James became the first undrafted player in history to average 20ppg for a full season. He not-coincidentally had his career high game against the Pistons (because we didn't have any defenders like Mike James to stop him!).

James has a ship. Bynum lost in the NCAA finals as he led his team with 17 points. The UConn team that beat him had Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Emeka Okafor, Josh Boone, Hilton Armstrong, Denham Brown, and Marcus Williams on it (all drafted in the NBA)... they picked up Rudy Gay the following season.

Isn't it crazy how good you have to be in college hoops to make a dent in the NBA? It's hard for 16 year old kids to understand when they're the best in their town how long the odds still are.

Because no other team in the NBA would pay him $3 million per season. I love Will Bynum, but that's his market value.

It looks like Will might have been offered the mid-level by another team (Bulls?) and the Pistons offered a bit more.

If you are below the cap, the MLE is $5.150 million. If you are above the cap, the MLE is $3.183 million.

The Pistons are paying Will $2.875 million.
