The Detroit Lions fired defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson and offensive line coach Larry Beightol on Tuesday, two days after finishing a 3-13 season. Lions coach Rod Marinelli announced the decisions at his final weekly press conference of the season. "Donnie Henderson is very close to me, and it was a very difficult decision," Marinelli said.

That is very sad news for the rest of the teams in the league.

[Yahoo! Sports] Lions dismiss defensive coordinator Henderson (SportsTicker)

Only two teams allowed more points than the Detroit Lions this season. Donnie Henderson will not get a chance to improve on that in 2007.

Sure blame it all on Donny. I don't think he had a complete team of starters the whole season.

Wow, I didn't see that one coming.

I'd have atleast given him a 2nd season to see what he could do. He wasn't given much to work with and injuries decimated the front 7.

Same goes for Larry B. The Lions had SIX lineman on the IR and many more games lost to injury.

So the D coordinator and O line coach get canned for not producing, yet the guy responsible for not having any talent keeps his job indefinitely???

Yup, sounds like the Lions to me.

Everybody knows Millen, The Fords and the Lions as an organization are a joke. Donnie will have a new gig before the ink goes dry on his termination package. I am quite sure he is happy to be done with these losers.

His coaches bite the bullet, but he survives another pathethic showing by HIS team that he put on the field ... something smells here as those pictures he has of WCF are really becoming valuable...:ohwell: :noidea:

Suddenly the Donnie firing doesn't seem so surprising. I forgot about Rod's son-in-law, Joe Barry. He was a coach with TB along with Marinelli. Barry had 1 year left on his contract with TB last season when Rod took the Lions job. Barry asked TB to let him out of the last year of his contract so that he could work for Rod in Detroit, but as per team policy, they refused. Barry got pretty mad about it, saying that he thought they'd make an exception in this case.

Barry's contract with T-Bay is now up, and this now opens the door for Barry to take over from Donnie.

Did we ever find our DLines coaches underwear?
Donny will proably go to KC.
As far as Millen, I remember a quote from someone, "That he should quit before somebody hurts him".
The handwritting was on the wall when we bit the bullet on Wilkerson.

[Yahoo! Sports] Lions hire Barry as team's new defensive coordinator (AP)

The Detroit Lions hired coach Rod Marinelli's son-in-law, Joe Barry, as the new defensive coordinator on Wednesday. The Lions said Barry would be introduced at a news conference Wednesday morning at the team's practice facility. Barry, the linebackers coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, takes over for Donnie Henderson, who was fired Tuesday, two days after the team finished a dismal 3-13 season.

After an exhausting 15 second search, the Lions have finally chosen a D co-ordinator.

I know this was a foregone conclusion and all, but did they really have to make it official so quickly?

I just looked over his resume... looks like the most impressive item is his relationship to the Lions coach.

Nice job, organization. You've really set the bar high.
