That will all change when the Lions open the season 3-0...........our first three games are winable being that they play Girl Scout Troop 467, The Greater Columbus Home for the Elderly and The Diabetic Society for Multiple Amputees. It's downhill after that however as the "meanie" Commish is making the next 5 games take place against college teams and the final 8 being against ACTUAL NFL teams......yikes!
Who's coaching the Diabetic Amputee squad? We are in danger of a letdown for that game if we win the first 2 handily.
Michael Curry is moonlighting and will be coaching them. So no worries. The Lions are a 4 point favorite. Curry says they good.
Makes perfect sense. A guy throwing a touchdown pass on his first series is NOT a guy with Lions DNA!
The Lions added defensive end Eric Hicks, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound veteran who hasn't started since 2006, the last of his six seasons under new defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham with Kansas City. Hicks, 32, was active for 11 games with the New York Jets in 2007 and didn't play last season. - If this guy is half as good as D. White, I like him.
There were 14 qb's that had higher college qb ratings than Stafford this year. Do I smell bust? His td to interception ratio was just a little above 2:1 and he only completed 61% of his passes. Yep, I smell a bust.
He seems like a good kid, but as far as skills, I wasn't impressed at all when he played MSU. You may be right Buck. We will see. He's a Lion so right there his odds of success suck.
This is Defensive Coordinator Gunther Cunningham's defensive alignment. In 2009, the Lions will put their ends out wide at the 9-technique and the 8-technique, depending on the position of the opponent tight end(s). “I think it’s going to be great. We called it a jet front." [quote E Simms] - OK I almost understand that.
Wow, that is REALLY wide. But I guess it plays to the strengths of our speed rushers off the edge. That also sets us up nicely for some interior blitzes by our LBs and Secondary. Spreading out the linemen forces the Gs to make a decision. Do they help out on the DEs or the DTs. Then when you bring in the blitzers, it can cause some confusion on the interior of the offensive line and also provides our blitzer a larger lane to rush from. To get an idea of what it would look like, basically just consider what other teams have been doing to our offensive line for about 10 years and flip it around.
What is that shade stuff ? I still want my 5 down linemen. Schwartz says he is a 4-3 guy. But Gunter is coming across as a 3-4 guy. Maybe I'm missing something as usual.
We become susceptable to the draw play with that formation. Actually, all opposing offenses have to do go beat us is to draw a play...
