Seriously man, I can't. They just pulled out a new one. 50 years and they pulled a new one. Wow. Millenless. They pulled a new one. I...just...can't...believe...it...
There is a salary cap in football. That's the biggest reason that I care. I care because the Lions have more "dead money" on the books each year than any other team in the leauge? Why? Because they give huge contracts to unknown rookies & over-rated, has-been or never-will-be FAs. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN'T EVALUATE TALENT!!!!!!
Yea...A smurf Safety really was a surprise choice. Still, not a pick that fulfills the needs of blocking or tackling. The TE drafted has blocking skills, but will be overmatched against NFL D-linemen.
Sounds like a perfect fit for the Lions Louis Delmas, 2009 NFL Draft Prospect A comment from a Tampa draft analyst... http://www.nfldraftsite.com/index.htm
I'm semi-okay with the first two picks, but that last one makes little sense. I can't wait to hear how the Lions justify it :nerd2:
Everywhere I read, Delmas was projected late 1st round to early 2nd round. I don't see why you guys are questioning this pick.
In Stafford's interview after the pick was made official, I guffawed when he said something about Detroit being a "great organization". My second laugh-out-loud moment of the night, the other one being when Michael Finley's attempt at a clutch 3-pointer late in the SA-Dallas game got stuck between the rim and the backboard.
I'm ok with the picks so far for this reason. The way I look at it is before today we sucked at 22 positions and now it's down to 19. It doesn't really matter what position we draft. As long as they are the leading candidate at their position. .....
Cuz we needed an LB with a brain...someone to QB the defense. Someone capable of stuffing the run & covering the middle. Someone that can tackle. Notice that Laurinaitis went 35 & Maualuga 38?
Apparently 2010 will be uncapped cuz the owners opted out of the last year of the current CBA. You gotta wonder if that factored into some players not entering the draft this year. Lions denying Stafford deal as draft looms | detnews.com | The Detroit News
well you can look at it as the lions getting the best player in the draft for 3 positions: QB, TE, and S...in which case i'm okay with the picks, especially since it's going to take more than 1 year to rebuild. they must not have thought lauranitis (sp?) or mauluga (sp?) could be the defensive anchor.
Lions completely fubarbed Day 2 of the draft. What a bunch of a$$e$. I don't like the Stafford pick, but having gone that route I can see the logic of getting a TE. Delmas at S was OK, but where is the MLB and DT? God I hate this management team.
Yeah, I'm underwhelmed to say the least. So far Day 2 has brought us an undersized OLB that they want to try and convert to MLB (Dizon 2.0) and a slow WR that they want to use as a return man. Woo Hoo, 1-15 here we come!
A few more slow midgets and we should be good to go in true Lions fashion. Just watching how Pittsburgh and NE draft kills me, that's how professional franchises should do it. Green Bay got Raji and Matthews.
I was just looking at that and thinking, "Wow, nice picks". I'll take quality over quantity any day. The Chiefs offered the Lions the chance to trade up to the #3 spot and a 4th round pick for the Lions #20 and #33 overall. We could have drafted Curry (LB), Eugine Monroe (OT) or Raji (DT) with that pick and instantly upgraded one of our 3 biggest needs with top talent. I still don't understand these guys. I hate this organization, I don't even know why I still follow the Lions. I told myself I can live with the Stafford pick if they pick DEFENSE pretty much all the other rounds (Or OT) and what do they do? They pick a QB/TE/WR in the first 4 rounds of the draft. Seriously...Are you kidding me? This organization is the biggest joke in the history of sports. Its laughable...We are horrible and we go and use more than half of our picks on offense. Not only offense, but QB/TE and WR... I'm speechless, I really am.
I share your frustration. I wish so much that I could just wash my hands of this team, but I just haven't been able to. I'm getting close though. The latest regime just finished telling us that they wanted to get bigger, faster, stronger and wanted to build in the trenches (yeah, where have we heard that one before?). Yet they went with undersized & slow and avoided the trenches like the plague. Don't give me the excuse that the draft didn't fall the way they wanted, or that they drafted best player available regardless of position. They had the first pick in each round PLUS extra picks in the top rounds. If a team with the best picks can't get what they want, then how did all of these other teams manage to upgrade need positions?
