If Magic were to have a bigger role in the Pistons org than he has right now in LA, I am sure he would turn his attentions to Pistons and help get what is needed to get us back on track....you may even get some agents to listen to him that have turned a deaf ear on Joe/and the Davisons over the past few years. (the nobody wants to play in Detroit persona)

He still has family in Michigan so I am sure even they would like to see their favorite son come home and support his boyhood team especially if he partly owning/managing it.

Oh by the way nice comments last night at the HOF enshrinement about "Daddy Rich" Chuck Daley by Magic about how he coached the "dream team" with his nicely coiffed hair and sharp three piece suits....

Couldn't find a single successful story in the last decade attributing Johnson to anything NBA related. Now - in fairness, since the end of the c-note era, the patient Dumars critics are out in droves..

But what you're forgetting is it's a business first, it's about money and winning but most importantly money. Because you can't have winning without money, you can't sustain winning without money.

So whether it's about team fluidity (cash) or team value (cash out) Dumars is at the top of his game. His tenure combined with the above spell long term consistency to investors and lenders. He's already proven himself and is still proving it today.

My thinking is unless Magic has a group already in waiting, utilizing him as part of their branding, who in their right mind would look at the books and say "lets jettison Dumars profitability for Magic's smile and potential?"

Would anyone be spending upwards of $500M for a team in Detroit, a decaying mid-west city with barely 1M people and four professional sports franchises unless they were promised consistency at the helm for the forseeable future? Is there logic in doing anything else?

And if Magic has no group - he's just offered himself up to any bidding parties as a willing Dumars replacement..(the "I see a dead man walking scenario").

Personally, I think Magic dis-respected Dumars in the words he chose.
I don't think Dumars is going anywhere and I think any relationship that may have existed between the two just went *Poof* into thin air...

Yes, but Zeke missing from the Dream Team stage was rough. Seeing Rodman in the crowd was nice but also a little awkward. I wonder how lit he got at the after party?

Larry Bird was like Shechy Green up there.

Looks like those were last years stats before we hit rock bottom.....so lets say 10 for 11 for Joe and give Mitch cupcake.magic.drbuss 10/6/6/5 during their 11 years running the Staples Center...

Also, I think Joe and Magic can coexist, so there is no need to throw JD under the bus..let it ride for awhile...and see what happens

Yeah Magic almost for got about Laetner who as the lone collegiate player on the roster. Would have been nice if Zeke had been on the team...of course he would have to have kissed magic on stage. Wished that Jerry or Oscar had introduced the 1960 team too...I had to wikipedia them to see who was up there on stage.

Second year in a row that Rodman has attended the ceremony as he was there for Micheal's induction last year too. Been a good olé boy each time hoping to garner some votes for himself in the near future.

That has to be an odd experience for Laettner to be up there with all those guys. A college legend for sure though.......

I keep catching the Dream Team segment on NBA TV and can't turn it off. There is just something about the way Magic describes everyone on the team that is fondly reminiscent of the old Inside the NBA shows. It was very unforced.

I can't help but think when he is describing Barkley laying out Laettner and giving him the, "Welcome to the NBA" speech that this wouldn't happen today. I am really getting old and it sucks. I'd rather pour gasoline in my eyes than listen to the ABC half time crew (that features Magic oddly).

I'm happy about getting old. The problem is when I try to do things I did when I was 25, when I am 35. The issue isn't aging, it's my way of dealing with change.

Some pretty good points and I don't think we are in any kind of position right now to turn down someone willing to help us keep our team in Michigan.

When Magic 1st retired he did not appear to be very reliable at all beyond what he did on the court. Over the past 15 years or so the Lakers have been the most successful NBA franchise bar none. Except for a semi-down years here and there they always find a way to get back on top. If Magic had anything to do with that then getting him here is something worth listening too.

What about these guys? I don't mean to come off as racist, but I presume these guys would have deep pockets and they obviously wouldn't be moving the team to Dubai.

All in all I am doing pretty well. It stings a little when my kid's friends refer to me as Brandon's dad and I can tell that they think I'm 1000.

I am pretty open minded, but I still find myself slipping into that things weren't like that in my day rant.

I would rather have the team leave town than have the Detroit Pistons owned by Magic Johnson.

You don't disrespect Zeke and then come to live in our house.

Seriously, though, forget Magic Johnson. And when I say forget him, I mean it like when you hear it on Goodfellas on TNT. He threw his former friend and one of the greatest Pistons and basketball players ever under the bus for money. Forget him.

Well, that would make sense considering the huge Arab population in Detroit. For instance, Dearborn has the largest concentration of Lebanese outside of Lebonan.

You just gotta wonder how it would impact the booze availability at the Palace though. Oh, and all-beef hotdogs going forward.
