Maryland pulled away late in that one. Overheard in the Maryland huddle by Coach Gary Williams, "You're losing to Davidson damnit!"

what i neglected to mention in my previous post was that i actually was the only entry in last year's competition. as a matter of fact, i have no idea what i'm doing and have been so dreadfully unsuccessful in the past that i just let the bracket-o-matic gizmo posted elsewhere do my picking for me -- and it kept wanting Butler!

Ah, so that explains it...LOL. I was always bad at it even when I did have a decent idea of what I was doing.

An interesting connection between Maryland and Davidson is that longtime Terps coach Lefty Driesell coached at Davidson before coming to Maryland. He even got Davidson to the Elite Eight one year, in the mid to late '60s.

Dude, when you know nothing about college hoops you don't have much else to go on except the seedings. But I did try and research a little bit about each matchup before picking them. I looked at their last 5. A bit like predicting a horse race winner.

I have this system for picking horses. I got it out of the back of a magazine.

One day I will try it in practice. :)

I have a great horse picking system. It involves colors I like, cool names, pretty horses, and lots of beer.

Drisell also coached at Georgia State, when I did my masters degree there. The guy is a major di*k. I one time caught him in the hallway trying to get an injured player to come back and play sooner (before the guy was ready). Lefty was persistent, almost threatening. Totally messed up the guy's career, because he did come back earlier at Lefty's behest. They named the court at GSU after him. What a waste.

Lefty was our arch rival when I was in school. We used to have this great picture of his big old bald head with an empty gas gauge printed over it. There would usually be about thirty roles of kids behind the visitors' bench all holding the picture over their faces.

Stanford was a stupid move on my part, but I figured if they were lucky enough to get in that they might just win one.

Bobby Knight let me down. Yeah...he's a loudmouth jackass, but ya gotta admire the drill sergeant in the guy. He is Woody Hayes temperamental basketball equivalent. They broke the mold after those two guys...the likes of which will probably never be seen again in college sports. "They" being the media.

    187 points to go! :cheerleader:

I have no idea why I picked Knight's team to win. His teams have been losing first round games for quite a while now, and they were a 10 seed this time. Pretty dumb of me to pick them to pull off even a mild upset.

Glad to see everyone having fun with this.

Don't be so hard on yourselves for picking some upsets that didn't come through. It takes guts to pick upsets and you need to pick some to win and it's pretty much all luck.

I got BOMBED my first tourney, but learned a lot from it and usually do quite well even though my knowledge of college hoops is sub-zero.

Usually, about 26 of 32 right is good enough to lead after the first round. It depends on how many upsets there are. So far everything is going according to plan. That means tomorrow we will see a ton of upsets!

For those who haven't noticed, just click "view full standings" to see all the teams in our group.
Right now we are all bunched up. They usually update the standings every few hours, so we haven't received credit for every game yet.

Don't worry, Darth. I don't think anyone's taking this all that seriously. Obviously Warthog wasn't when he made his picks.

Looks like they have updated the standing thru the first 7 games.

A familiar position I find myself in... :hoops:

Re: MARCH MADNESS BRACKETS... Join Now!

Six winners and 2 losses so far for me as a couple of the first round upsets that I picked didn't materialize. Stanford and ODU not coming thru.
You got to pick a few of these in the first round to stir it up:nerd2:

So far all of the higher seeds have held par. Time for tonight's 8 games to play out. Hopefully a few upsets there to get things interesting.

Sparties up 20-9 with 7+ minutes in the first half. But no way they get by NC.

Meanwhile in the NIT > Wolverines down as many as 21 on the Seminole home court as their season ends tonight and Tommy Turtleneck possibly coaches his last game in A2

    How embarrassing.

My 11 year old daughter (blue monkey) is 8 for 8. I've only got 6 correct.

The worst thing is that last year she won the whole thing with about a dozen or so people.:mmph:
