Hopefully Charlie won't view this as being "slighted" by Joe and demand to be released.

Speights is a no-hustle, no-D big man - hardly the description of guys the Pistons want or need.

I don't think the Pistons made a serious offer. The Sixers want cheap young talent and not over paid stiffs.

i can't find the write-up above anywhere on line. the combined pistons salaries are in the plus $15M range and speights only pulls down $2.7. neither team is under the cap. either there's a whole lot missing from the article or somebody's tugging someones chain.

You must have missed the Speights' discussions. The forum gang was concocting a pretty attractive offer for the Pistons to land Mr. Speights.

And you've seen him play how many games to make that assertion? I don't think he's the second coming of Bill Russell, but when you can get a young 6'10" big man with legit skills, and all it will cost you is a 2nd rd draft pick, YOU TAKE A CHANCE!

Those 2nd round picks are cheap talent on non garanteed contracts.

We have about 236 2nd rd draft picks.............I think we could have spared a pick or 2 to take a chance..........

Actually, we have two extra 2nd round picks coming, but they may not come for a while since they are both protected.

From the Chase Budinger trade, we receive the Rockets' 2012 second-round pick (top 40 protected in 2012, top 35 protected in 2013 and 2014, unprotected in 2015).

From the Alex Acker trade, we receive the Clippers' 2013 second-round pick (top 55 protected).

But if they finish in say, the top 5 teams in 2012, we lose the pick?
