This almost guarantees no major trades etc. Joe is gone if the interim coach stays, hes just biding his time until his contract is up. However, there may be a saving grace. If indeed Cheeks was Gores / Phil's choice and now it is blowing up in his face does that mean Joe has an "I told ya so" on Gores that he can parlay into job security? I say no, but you never know.

Brad Asmus is #2 in coaching tenure...out of 4...and he hasn't even managed a pre-season game yet...........:)

Making a Lawyer Loyer the interim head coach could be interesting at the post game cross-examination........

I like how Loyer's purported strength is that he worked for Lawrence Frank's staff the last two years and for Maurice Cheeks Portland staff prior to that.

We are entering a special time of year for the Pistons organization, open season on the coach.

Loyer should start things off right by calling a practice the first moment it's allowed by the CBA after the All-Star break. 12:01 Monday morning.

Let the other 14 guys know that they're there to make Drummond look better and he is the star. (He'll be coming in later to do some work with Sheed and Dave Cowens who I brought back to take Lowyer's old spot.)

I also hope they get him a 2-guard, a good team guy like Rip Hamilton who can be a liaison between the other players and the coach.

How good does Michael Curry look now when you look back at the coaches won loss record since Flip left?

He looks like John Wooden only being five games under 500.

How good does Flip look? We haven't had a decent team since he was let go.

I don't see the point of firing Cheeks now. This team sucks and we need to keep this years draft pick and not give it to the Bobcats. What is the point of limping along to the 8th seed getting drilled in the first round of the playoffs and not having a first round draft pick? Should have let Cheeks finish out the season and broom Cheeks and Joe D out. Then the new GM and coach have a nice player to add to the team in a deep draft.

Must have been some philosophical disagreement with TG.

I don't think so. Gores doesn't seem to be the kind of guy to ride on a leader carousel given his background. Murmurs of Dumars going to Cleveland and lack of a new GM contract are pretty decent signs that he is at the end of the tether.

Interim or new, JD needs something great to happen to stay.

Upsetting to say the least. This team needs to make trades.

I never got a strong vibe about him as a coach. Don't particularly care that he is gone, as he wasn't much of a difference maker in my eyes anyway.

Joe is probably feeling like he is sitting pretty. Yeah people are doubting him, but he's looking around thinking that he's already got the dysfunctional roster in place and now he's got the next punching bag in place in John "Who?" Loyer. What else does he need?

He's probably blowing into the dice now ready to give them another role. Who is Rip's agent again?

I'd feel better about this whole situation if Joe could get Mo Cheeks to join him in the firing news conference. That's classy.

The best question asked in this group. You might be surprised at some answers. Would he mesh with JD? Most likely not, because of certain demands. Sitting out and on the sidelines may have softened him, but some issues will remain. Squeaky voice Avery Johnson also had some demands along these mentioned lines.

Most interesting that they emphasized that John Loyer would coach out the rest of the season. I think Gores will be patient and wait this one out.

Human nature and such will provide a big bump on performance levels for the rest of the season. They will now make the playoffs.

Cheeks was a none-factor. This will shake up this team. Just watch and see how they play.
