There is individual probability but there are also probabilities for series of events. Like if I roll a die once there is a 1/6 chance of a 6 but if I roll the die 10 times there is a pretty good chance that at least one of the rolls will be a 6. Sorry I cannot provide the formulas.

A series of events would be: What is the probability that I roll a die in order 1,2,3,4,5,6
And it would be 1/6x1/6x1/6x1/6x1/6x1/6, or 1 in approx 46000

Of course the chance is pretty good over 10 rolls. But each time you roll the dice you still have a 1 in 6 chance of hitting any of the numbers. It doesn't matter if you roll it a thousand times or once. You still have a 1 in six chance each times you roll the die.

But I should correct myself from earlier. You are of course referred to an event where the variables are not fixed. Aka you have a dice with 100 sides, but each time you roll it one of the sides disappears. So for each coach we hire, we have fired another and removed them from the pool of potential hires. There are two ways to look at this

    a) Each successive hire is 1/remaining pool
    b)total number of hires/total pool

But the probability is still fixed from one event to the next. They still don't stack. Its just that previous events affect the next.

Now, after air-blowing and some wiping, my lap-top is okay but my nose is till running and my throat is sore. Man, what a mess you've got me in.

True, but that doesn't mean that any particular roll / coach has a bigger chance.

But I hope that you could argue that these coaching choices are not independent, but that there is learning going on making the chances of success higher with each successive selection. Presumably they're not selecting the coaches by a roll of the dice.

    Presumably.

    I hope.

If you consider this "practice makes perfect model, the Pistons org should be the best Coach Selectors out of any team in league by now.

I'm going to refer to him as "Eight" as in being Joe's eight try.

Low is going to like this. If this is still an issue today then the Pistons should be made into a WNBA team.

At least we know he won't be distracted talking to fans during the games 41 times a year.

Man...you're good....I kept trying to pull my mouse away from the "like" button...no dice.

I'm just at a point where I'm not going to work up the energy to be annoyed. There's a lot of summer left to enjoy and I don't really feel like losing my crap now. I'm already seeing the trickle of BS quotes in my Twitter stream...I have to just walk away. :ballchain:

Did anyone else think that it was odd today, that Tom Gores wasn't at the Press Conference? You would have thought that he would have been there to show support to his team and to his new head coach!

Joe and Tom have a very strange relationship.
