What upside could Doug Collins possibly provide for a young team?

A guy on our own payroll? LMAO

I'd be cool with Laimbeer as an assistant, but even if he were to become our head coach there isn't any possible way that he can be worse than Curry.

I second that (no bill). We cannot make the same mistake twice (hiring a captain who has never steered a ship-no pun intended). This is the Pistons. Not the Clippers. Bill can learn the NBA trade somewhwere else.

I am still skeptical about handing over the reigns to Dave Cowens. He barely said a word during last years disaster, allowing Curry to fall deeper & deeper into doody...

Whatever happened, there was a definite split between Curry and Cowens. DC was in serious Siberia by halfway through the season. Curry wanted no part of him. Who knows, maybe Cowens quit rather than work with Curry and then Joe made his move. It was all oddly timed.

I like Cowens. He has the personality to deal with today's self important players but with a serious fire down below. He's the socialized version of Laimbeer.

If McCosky says it is a bad idea, that is pretty much the seal of approval. Git er dun Joe!

I'd like to see Cowens and Laimbeer work together. Maybe have a donnybrook at practice, show the guys how it was done in the golden era.

Laimbeer woulnd't be as bad as Curry. Impossible.

Reason #1 : he would NEVER use a small ball lineup.

I agree. I have never been in favor of hiring Laimbeer. But I have just changed my mind.

Now that McCosky says it has no chance, perhaps Laimbeer could make it work.

I fully expect Bill Laimbeer to be named the new coach of the Detroit Pistons later today.

Yeah, that medium ball lineup is exciting.

We've been looking for a backup SF for years, and next year we could have an All-SF team !

But if every one of them palms the ball for 15 seconds when they receive it, we might be in trouble.

McCosky is a brave man. I wouldn't write an article that tries to take away Bill Laimbeer's livelihood.

I would have thought giving the other teams a 1-2 month head start on the coaching search was they way to go. I'm having a hard time believing that this isn't working out.

In any event it looks like they'll be trying to force a coaching style and system on the players regardless of if it is a good fit.

I don't remember... but did McCosky call the hiring of Curry a disaster when it happened... or during his tenure?

What were Joe Dumars' qualifications when he was hired to be GM?

Laimbeer is hated by the press corps in Detroit more than any other. I happened to bump into Mitch Albom here in LA a few weeks back when he was in town filming a Simpsons episode. I asked him about the possibilty of Bill becoming a head coach in the NBA and he said ZERO CHANCE. He hated him, you could tell. His wife thought Bill deserved a chance, and Mitch said Bill is a pompous ass and nobody would listen to him.

I think the guys woould listen to him. He's a real man and he's smart. He was tutored by Daddy Rich. Joe really messed up hiring Curry. He should have picked Bill then.

If McCosky hates Bill he must be the guy. The conduit hasn't been right about anything in a long long time. If he's shooting arrows he might have a suspicion that Bill is in the mix. Or he might be smoking that McCracksy again.
