Is there another 5th string SF in the league besides Dajuan Summers?

    SF Depth Chart:
    Tay
    Tracy
    JJ
    Daye
    Summers
(I'm sure that we'll see some SF action from Rip too)

I really can see him having a Grant Hill type re-emergence. T-Mac of old is looooooong gone, but he is a very skilled ball player who has some range on his jumper, is very unselfish, can create for other players, and still has the ability to get hot every now and then.

I'm going to assume that Rip is pretty much GONE! As someone stated earlier, Stuckey/Gordon with a Bynum/McGrady combo off the bench is pretty decent.

I still say Rip and Wilcox for Gilbert Arenas all day!!!!!!!

That would atleast make us favourites for the "Most Fragile Backcourt" award with the T-Mac/Agent 0 combo.

    dont go too far ahead.

    1. Tmac plays well - earns midlevel ( for instance) contract next year.wants 20-30 mpg. Bye, bye detroit.
    2. Tmac sucks - bye, bye.

I don't see how you can't love a move that knocks your #1 pick from a year ago down to 4th (at best) on the depth chart.

If your #1 pick from a year ago is down to 4th (at best) on the depth chart, you have bigger problems then the move you just made.

    This is Brutal.

Rip and Tay need to be gone. (Even then, I would rather grab a guy with a future in the league to be Gordon's backup)

do any detroit reporters ask these questions? I mean the same questions we all have? Does anybody ever ask joe d to explain his thought process?

I understand GM's aren't likely to give many interviews, but when he does give an interview, do the Detroit reporters ask the tough questions, or does it become a love fest?

Whats the big deal about him signing for 1 year at the min? Seems like a very low risk move to me.

I am neither an Austin Daye or a You've got to play the poor youth guy, but why draft him at all if this is your plan? The team has plenty of needs to address, why not make some other move in one of those areas?

Was the record skipping in the war room? SF, SF, SF, SF, SF.......

I don't have a problem with McGrady, but it seems like this will be another instance where the Pistons will not even know what position Daye should play as his rookie deal expires and they drafted him first!

Is it just me or did Daye show in summer ball that he's going to be the future point guard?

Can Tmac do 10 deep knee bends without popping a MCL?

Contract wise, yeah - low risk for sure.

The only risk that I can really see is the fate of your 2009 1st round draft pick. The kid needs some minutes to become an NBA baller. Tracy McLady has been known to whine a little bit when he doesn't get his minutes.

Hopefully Daye's got the stones to say:
"NO WAY is a washed-up, half crippled, heartless 1st round playoff failure with a WOMAN'S NAME gonna take my spot!"

The contract is meaningless. Why can't we take the OKC route and draft players to develop. I am all for veteran leadership (see Wallace, Ben), but Tracy Mcgrady? Seriously, can anyone say: Tracy McGrady, that guy can really teach these young players X. Was he a prolific scorer? For sure, but I feel that is more his uber-athleticism, quite unteachable.

He is a great jump shooter. A jump shot is different from athleticism.

T-Mac costs us what a minimum contract player costs as the league picks up the diff between a minimum contract and a veterans minimum.

This is an insanely good signing by Joe, if for no other reason than if T-Mac is slightly better than comatose, he can be traded for value, and if he plays well, allows us to dump a $10 million a year contract for value, and have the starting spot open for Daye next year.

It is mind boggling to me how anyone can have an issue with this signing. There is no lower cost, higher upside signing Joe could have possibly done this offseason.

This is arguably Joe's best signing since CWebb or McDyess.

I'm seeing a psychological disaster here. Remember A.I.. This COULD be just as bad...We are still dealing with people here...People with egos.

I think this just shows what a great guy Joe is. He takes a guy who can't get a contract to sit on the end of the bench on any other team and gives him a contract and another chance. And if he plays well it may help us get a lower draft pick.

For the record I like this move, I really, really like this move; especially if it's the tipping point that finally allows Joe to cut the cord on Rip, apparently Ben Gordon wasn't enough.

Instead of developing players...We're becoming the last stop on the way to the retirement home. :stirthepot:
