I think Denver is nuts for stalling this one. And I think NJ is nuts for giving up Devin Harris for Melo. However, getting Harris is not exactly going help Denver all that much - its only after they turn around and unload one of their guards that they will get a real benefit out of the trade. On the other hand, having Harris at point with CB coming from the bench behind him can't be that bad. A three guard rotation of CB, Afflalo, and Harris certainly ain't bad at all. But Denver already has a decent backcourt. Anyway, yes, Denver could do better, getting a big that they really need for Melo instead of a guard they don't need. But hey, they stand a chance of getting nothing for him at all, so since they have got a team to unwisely offer them a truly gifted player for Melo, they had better take it quick before the offer goes away.
when it happens - I do not see Billups going to the bench. Billups' time in NBA ELITE level is runnin out -2 years, I think. IMO billops do not want to spend his remaining ELITE years sitting on the bench. He either starts or demands the trade.
Devin Harris does not go to Denver in this deal. He goes to Charlotte. Denver gets: From NJ: Derrick Favors, future first-rounders From Utah: Andrei Kirilenko Utah gets: From Charlotte: Boris Diaw, saving them almost $16.5mil in salary (plus $9mil more if Diaw opts out after this season) NJ gets: From Denver: Carmelo Anthony Charlotte gets: From NJ: Devin Harris
As I understand the proposed trade, Denver would not get Harris. Harris would go to Charlotte. However, Denver would get Favors, Kirilinko and a 2012 1st rounder from the Nets. It seems as if the problem is that Anthony won't sign a long term extension with the Nets. And without that extension, the Nets are refusing to do the deal.
Denver is stupid for getting cold feet. Favors, AK-47 and a NJs 1st rounder for Melo would be awesome.
Thanks for the clarification. Now I think NJ is totally nuts for making the trade. Denver is getting something for Melo at least if the trade happens.
Yep. For some crazy reason they didn't want to spend an extra $10 million and land in the luxury tax in order to get worse.
I am hoping Denver flips Melo him the bird. Let him take less money in 2011 or 2012 when the new CBA is in place.
Here's an interesting rumor from NBC. According to this rumor, the deal didn't go through because Anthony was reluctant to sign an extension with the Nets. "But rumors surfaced that the Nuggets thought the Knicks might have tampered with the talks, encouraging Anthony through back channels not to sign any extension so he can sign with New York as a free agent next summer (right after the lockout)." Knicks deny tampering in Carmelo Anthony trade talks - ProBasketballTalk - Basketball - NBC Sports
CBA expires in jun 30 2011. Negotiations...both sides cannot even agree on financial situation - players union complained that owners are too pessimistic but have not offered their own view.
thanks, I didn't hear about that. Can't say I like it, what am I gonna do if there's no NBA season? Study??? And what the heck are we going to talk about in this forum??? It hardly survives the summer break!
Whenever the Summer comes, somebody dredges up some boring topic...Like the Philadelphia Eagles Thread.
True-DAT Neems! I'd rather read a Korean translation of the Gardening thread than that freaking Eagles drivel.
We really need to get in on this deal to get rid of Rip. Iannazzone: Proposed Carmelo deal won Now this is a deal gift wrapped for us, instead of Denver taking back more money for Melo ($19+M) than they send ($17+M) we can add Rip to the Mix and they could save money. How about Denver gets Rip, Favors, 2-1st rd picks from NJ and we get Troy Murphy's expiring contract. Murphy is a legit starting PF in this league who is a beast on the boards and his three point shooting really stretches the defense, and while he isn't exactly a defensive stall-wort he's better than both of the guys we're thinking of starting there, CV and Austin Daye. Murphy is basically what we hope JJ becomes (although JJ has a lot more hustle, versatility and upside). Getting Rid of Rip and landing a pure PF allows us to get Daye run at the SG and SF spots instead of killing him at the PF spot. But I'm sure NONE of this will actually happen. Our Depth Chart: PG: Stuckey / Bynum SG: Gordon / Daye / T-Mac SF: Tay / Daye / Summers / T-Mac PF: Murphy / CV / Max / Monroe / Wilcox C: Wallace / Max / Monroe
