See i think the complete opposite. They are both so competitive and one thing Rip does about 99% of the time is play hard. There would have to be a give and take, but i don't think they are incompatible at all.
Please do not hire Laimbeer. I'm telling y'all HE CAN NOT COACH IN THE NBA!!!!! He doesn't have the temperment for it, at best he's another Paul Silas...... But I'm down for Lee getting the job, you know we'd get the hook up for all the games, and imagine the Lee-Caps from the perspective of coach.
Shocker. Wow. I'm thinking Joe saw that free agents wanted nothing to do with that cat or his garage sale special table cloth suits. Good luck and good riddance. Nightmare could turn into a dream if Lambs gets aboard. [SIGN]Seeking coach with gonads. Preferably oversized[/SIGN]
Terry Porter? Pistons fire Curry; eyeying Laimbeer? (UPDATE) Ken Berger CBS Posted on: June 30, 2009 1:39 pm Edited on: June 30, 2009 1:58 pm As most of the NBA was expecting the Detroit Pistons to gear up for pursuit of several free agents, they fired their coach instead. Michael Curry will not return to coach the team next season, the Pistons announced in an email to the media. "This was a difficult decision to make," Pistons president Joe Dumars said. "I want to thank Michael for his hard work and dedication to the organization. However, at this time, I have decided to make a change." UPDATE: Speculation immediately centered on whether Dumars would reach out to former Bad Boys teammate Bill Laimbeer, who resigned as coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock earlier this month in the hopes of landing an NBA job. The timing is more than curious, but Laimbeer refused to comment when reached on his cell phone Tuesday. "I've got nothing to say," Laimbeer said. "Thanks for the call." Another candidate could be announcer Doug Collins, who coached the Pistons for three seasons in the late 1990s and removed his name from consideration for the 76ers' coaching vacancy earlier this offseason. Curry was hired last June to replace Flip Saunders, who was fired after alienating the veteran core of a team that had advanced to six consecutive Eastern Conference finals and won the NBA title in 2004. Under Curry, the Pistons went 39-43 in a season that began with Dumars trading Chauncey Billups to Denver for Allen Iverson's $22 million expiring contract, a move that sent the veteran Pistons reeling from their perch atop the conference. Curry had to endure a juggling act with Iverson, Rodney Stuckey, and Richard Hamilton, and alienated Hamilton by sending him to the bench in favor of Iverson. But while Curry had to deal with the headaches from the Iverson trade, he will not reap the rewards. Dumars is set to go shopping for one or two major free agents at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, armed with the cap relief from Iverson's and Rasheed Wallace's contracts coming off Detroit's books. The stunning announcement of Curry's firing sends a clear message that Curry and Dumars didn't agree on the direction the team will take in its efforts to rebuild. Bulls free agent Ben Gordon is believed to be at the top of Detroit's list of free-agent targets, which begs the question of what will become of Hamilton, the franchise's lone remaining star. The Pistons also are widely expected to make a run at Orlando free agent Hedo Turkoglu.
I just woke up (Yes 2PM, haha) and I have ESPN on and I seen this. All I have to say is YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
!. Isaiah Thomas/Bill Laimbeer 2. Jeff Van Gundy 3. Avery Johnson This isn't the order in which I think it could happen chancewise. Just the order in which I would pursue it.
Yeah I really hope they don't hire Laimbeer. I know everyone wants him, but he hasn't coached in the NBA either, yes I know he's been with the shock. I would rather see Bill as an assistant for a few years. Then moved to a head coach position. Lets bring someone in with some experience. Van Gundy anyone? The last thing we need is another coach without experience IMO.
Probably means that Joe has some real talent coming to the Pistons. Find out soon. Now people can really look at our players hard and not just blame the coach. We also have had personel issues. I mean how long is it going to take JMax to get a shot? Amir is gone but I was tired of hearing excuses. In other words, it wasn't all the problem of the coach.
I have been waking up around 2PM for a couple weeks now at least. My sleep schedule is totally upside down.
Hearing Doug Collins or Avery Johnson....... Laimbeer is not going to be considered! Let's wait and see
I'm really curious to see if Joe goes with a proven established coach . . . or takes another chance giving a rookie w/ experience a shot (Thibodeau (sp?), Laimbeer, etc)
