Re: Terry Foster: Joe should coach the team

You're absolutely right. The news of Curry's firing broke 15 minutes before his radio show started today. There is no way he wrote that after Curry was fired.

Re: Terry Foster: Joe should coach the team

    Great post G.

In my multiple defenses of the reasoning behind Curry's hiring, I have argued Curry was only ever a stop gap measure for monetary reasons (LB and Flip cost a fortune, even after they had stopped coaching) and pragmatic reasons (unlike lpgrl26, I never felt last year's team, pre trade, was a championship caliber team, so why cough up even mre money just to not make the finals again? Getting bounced three straight times in the ECFs, especially the way it happened last time versus cleveland, was the main reasons.)

That being said, while expected Curry to be canned before his contract expired, I thought it would be mid-season or end of season. The FA market has spoken well and truly.

The real question is.. does Curry qualify to collect Federal and State unemployment?

It doesn't seem like Joe may be entertaining hiring Laimbeer, but I wouldn't base it on McKoskey's writing or what Joe says. A lot of times what they say and what happens are two vastly different things.

Terry Foster should coach the Pistons.

That's a proper way to get the lottery pick.

Could Curry's firing be the perfect cover-up for going cheap this season?

You fire your coach the day players have to opt out of their contracts.

You take your time hiring a new coach.

The free agents either stay in their contracts or the unrestricted ones sign elsewhere due to the uncertainty.

The Pistons sign no one but chalk it up to bad timing.

Oh Ernie. We love you man, even when you are in full conspiracy mode.

If anything, KEEPING Curry (no more table cloth references, let the man have dignity after being fired!) would have kept the FAs away in droves. With all that Capp Spayce, and Doug Collins or JVG's (assuming Stern has lifted the ban - I'm not holding my breath) hiring but one press conference away, we will be a prime magnet for FAs, like we never have been before.

I didnt read through all of this thread but maybe im alone on this but I dont fully agree with firing him. First year head coach...of course he is going to take some lumps but what about the poisition he was put in...traded the leader of the team for a guy who might work out but didnt and it was bad and also have guys like Sheed who became so lazy and had a horrible year. All of the drama on this team and thier was going to be some no matter what..AI cry's if hes on the bench and so did Hamilton. If we kept Billups and made it to the ECF and lost would Curry have been fired or would we have just thought its time to reshape the roster?

I hear you RC, but its really not relevant.

Curry lost the locker room and the PF members. In a big way.

Oh, and I am certain, like most others here are (G-man predicted this), that due to the timing of his firing, that the agents of our top FA targets stated point blank to Joe that they did not want to come to Detroit unless it had a credible head coach.

Rip, it's too early to start defending him. We get 7 days to use him as a pinata here first. Rules are rules.

Im not mad at the firing but im not glad either. Thier is plenty of times this season that I wondered what the hell he was thinking but point is the main reason for our woes was the players. Before the CB trade we were doing pretty good and after it we just slowly started declining till we were bad...it wasnt all AI but he was a large issue but players like Sheed became non existent on a lot of nights and other guys weren't stepping it up...honestly McDyess was one of our best players this season and was consistent. I also wish Curry well and hope he finds a spot as an assistant coach or something somewhere.

What are Curry's odds of landing the Lakers job when Jackson steps down?

I don't think that's what this means. There's still a good chance he'll be traded... or at the very least, explored in trade opportunities.

JVG is a coach's coach. He can adjust to his personal. But its all irrelevant if he's still banned.

My question is why hasn't anyone considered Cowens? Why couldn't he had just taken over? That would allow Laimbeer to be an assistant.

Extremely happy because curry was just not going to cut it. I think Joe was scared that free agents would not want to come to our team. Good move. We need a proven coach.
