Figure if we got to follow some winning BB in SE Michigan we got follow the Wolverines, Spartans, Eagles and Titans??

the 15th rank Michigan Wolverines had no answer for unranked and undefeated Marquette today as the Warriors cut through the lane for countless hoops in the first half and then beat from the outside in the second half. The tallest player on the Warriors squad was a 6'6 gut by the name of Butler.

Michigan cut a double digit halftime lead down to one point with a 10-0 run midway through the second half only the see the warriors put together a 12-0 run to thwart Michigan comeback attempt.

The Wolverines were 3 for 20 from the outside 3 pt arc and was in the bonus for the last 10 minutes of the game, but continued to toss up the three ball in the last 7 mins of the game instead of pounding it down to Harris or Sims

    Michigan is now 3-1.

    Nice thread idea, Dre.

I've got a feeling both teams (MSU and Wolverines) are rated higher than they should be...or will be...in a couple of weeks.

Anyhow, should be exciting seasons for both MSU and their little brothers in the basketball world.:stirthepot:

Well just like their little brothers down the road, the second ranked Spartans ran into an unranked, undefeated Florida team and suffered the same result, an upset loss..

Florida defeated Michigan State 77-74 yesterday to remain undefeated at 5-0 and the Spartans dropped to 4-1 and will certainly drop a spot or two in the top 10.

Although we have had a lot to be thankful for this holiday weekend there was nothing to cheer about with the play of the local SE Michigan collegiate and professional teams.

In addition to the upset losses by the Spartans and Wolverines, the Lions loss in their annual turkey day debacle, the Red wings were shut out in two straight games at the Joe on Wednesday and Friday and the Pistons duplicated the effort by losing their two home games on Wednesday and Friday.

Is there hope that some local team will win before the weekend is over???

Spartans play UMASS today....lets hope they bounce back with a W.

Michigan State Spartan BB team rebounds from yesterdays loss with a convincing 106-68 victory over the 2-4 UMass Minutemen. Coach izzo won his 341st game for MSU surpassing Jud Heathcote to become the all time leader in coaching victories at Michigan State. The Spartans are now 5-1

Detroit Mercy also played today and lost 68-66 in OT to Depaul.

Red wings stop a 2 game slide as Todd Bertuzzi scores the winning goal in a shoot out as the Wings come back from a 2-1 deficit to tie the game at 3 with only 57 seconds left in the game and take it to OT and then to the Shootout......maybe the Pistons will get off the snide and upset the Hawks tomorrow

The Michigan Wolverines drop another game in Florida, this time they are upset by Alabama 68-66 and will certainly drop out of the top 25 with two disappointing losses at this Old Spice Holiday tournament.

Once again the Wolverines relied on their 3 point game and it failed them again as they were 6 -25 from beyond the arc. No need for that when you have DeShawn Sims downlow that you can feed and Manny Harris who can drive to the hoop and get as many foul calls as Dwade...

Wolves now 3-2 and will have to earned their way back into the top 20 with some wins in the Big 10 conference games come January.

As expected Michigan which had been ranked 15th last week fell out of the top 25 losing to Marquette and Alabama. The Wolverines are now 3-2.

Michigan State which loss to Florida on Friday and rebounded to blast UMass on Saturday fell from second to ninth in the AP poll. They are 5-2

In other local collegiate basketball news, Eastern Michigan won it's third straight game tonight beating Canisius 75-58 and are now 5-2.

Thanks Scoe, my column may get a few followers here as the seasons goes on as this is one collegiate season where we may have to look at the draft much more closely to avoid any Darko Debacles....that hype ruined the last four years of Piston basketball ~~~championship wise....

Michigan State is actually 5-1 with a rematch at #10 North Carolina at 9pm EST tomorrow night. That one should be interesting.

In the interest of draft info, I may start a Washington Huskies thread. They are ranked 14 in the nation right now, and have a guard named Isaiah Thomas.

If you do start a new thread, you should call it "Let's talk about Isiah Thomas".

In the Big 10-ACC challenge, the rematch proved to be a redux of last seasons NCAA title results with the Tar Heels beating the Spartans again.
    North Carolina 89 MSU-82

This was supposed to be a Spartan victory as they returned literally every starter from last years runner up squad and the Heels had lost nearly all of their starters to the NBA.

But alas, the Spartans fell behind by as many as 19 points in the second half only to finally wakeup with about 11 minutes left in the game. They died by the three ball shooting a horrid 2-20 from beyond the arc. Still they got the game down to 6 pts with less than 2 mins and had a chance to drop it to four with steal, but two Spartans ran into each other and the Heels streaked down to the other end and score to take the score back to eight and pretty much dodge a bullet from the late blooming Spartans. Good game the last 10 minutes, but Sparty reminded me of their uncles to the south of them getting behind by double digit figures and not enough minutes left in the game to make the full comeback.

The 9th ranked Spartans fall to 5-2 and the 11th ranked Tar Heels improve to 7-1

The run at the end of the 1st half really set the Sparties back. Defense was a problem, as UNC shot near 60% from the floor. If there are ever any good losses, I'd say this is one. Anything to get Izzo fired up is great, and he's gonna push these guys hard the rest of the season after this loss. He has a score to settle with Roy Dubs, after dropping the last 5 to UNC, and 3 in the last 12 monthes.

Not really a surprise loss for MSU, in my eyes at least. North Carolina has a vastly superior front line, and they were hitting their shots. MSU couldn't establish any real post offense and missed the three point opportunities they did get. A lot of those perimeter shots seemed a bit rushed to try to take back UNC's lead. Even at the end of the game they couldn't get a rebound or hit the clutch shots.

This team is going to run into trouble all year because of their front line. There will be a lot of pressure on the guards to score points. The upcoming schedule is terrible aside from Texas (Upper Bowl Izzone is already depressing, but when the most "exciting" game is Oakland...eh), so they should be able to get on track. I'd really like to see someone besides Dreymond show some real talent upfront. Raymar seems to be getting back on track though, which should go a long way at the end of the season.

Expectations are high when you finish runnerup to the national championship and return almost all the key starters and have a HOF coach...

In the Big10-ACC Challenge our other local big 10 team falls too.

    Boston College 62~ Michigan 58

Michigan which hosted Boston College in Ann Arbor once again fell behind by getting out hustled on the boards and once again relying on the three ball with only Manny Harris even thinking about attacking the rim. The Wolverines shot 32% from the floor including going 9/34 from beyond the arc which allowed them to only go the line 11 times compared to the BC Eagles 20 times.

BC led by 10 at the half and opened the second with 7-0 run to lead 41-24. Michigan attempted a comeback by hitting some threes in the end and playing better defense, but the clock did it to them just as it did the Spartans last night and once again there was not enough time to make a full comeback and the wolves lose by 4.

The 3-3 Michigan Wolverines led the Big 10 in 3 point shooting last year, but the coach is going to have emphasize pounding it inside this season otherwise their preseason 15 ranking will become a memory and they will fighting just to be a bubble team when the big dance starts.

In another Big 10-ACC challenge game, Illinois was down 22 at the half to 19th ranked Clemson and came back to win by 2.
