Can it happen? Will the losing team between the two Michigan schools on Saturday be left out in the cold? I hope not.
Re: Michigan-Michigan State Mens basketball 2010-2011 MSU is probably in whether they win or lose tomorrow. They are a perennial elite 8 team the past decade. They probably don't get to the sweet 16 this year though. Michigan is in for certain if they beat Sparty for the second time and then can guarantee it with at least one win in the Big 10 tournament. Is the Big East that strong to get at least 11 of their 16 teams in the dance?
We have the results of the Michigan -vs- State game and the final score is... Michigan - 70 State - 63 Hopefully, both teams can go the the NCAA's....
Re: Michigan-Michigan State Mens basketball 2010-2011 The Wolverines hold on to beat the Spartans 70-63 and complete their first sweep in hoops since the 96-97 season. This win should get the Wolverines into the big dance no matter if they lose in the first round of the big 10 tourney or not. Expect both teams to get probably a 12 seed in the NCAA tourney The Wolverines have to hope that freshman Tim Hardaway Jr stays for another two seasons...the dude is good!!
Good job Michigan! Maybe they can make some noise in the tournament. I'm actually happy for them. I really don't think MSU even deserves to get in. Who have they beat? I seriously doubt they will even get through the first round. I don't like MSU's basketball team getting in the tournament based on success in past years any more than I like it when U of M gets their football teams in there some years. I'm pretty sure some deserving team will be left out so that MSU gets in. Still...it will be good to see MSU get in there if they do.
So MSU is having a rebuilding year. The good thing is not hearing the talking heads say, "Izzo has lost it".
He's to good of a coach to "lose" it, but I wouldn't say its a rebuilding year either. I'd say its a year of unexpected issue after unexpected issue. They have lost alot of players counted on to help them get back to another final 4, but I was also suprised how unhungry they appeared yesterday... the young pups from AA sure seemed to want it more, and that never seems to happen against an Izzo team.
The Spartans loss a couple of players during the year...the question is why were they rated so high (at # 2) to begin the season?? I still hope they get in the big dance and at least redeem themselves to at least the sweet sixteen. I am still a Wolverine guy so of course I line up against Darth and Detteam and hope that the young Wolverines can get that far too
I think the Wolverines want it more. A part of me plans to root for them, but then I think about the rivalry and trash talking after the game so there will be plenty of cognitive dissonance going on. I just can't do it. The Spartans, to me, seem to think they are entitled or destined to get in the tournament or go to the final four. This Spartan team just doesn't have what it takes and I highly doubt they will all of a sudden turn it around. I don't see Michigan getting past the 2nd round at best. IF Sparty makes the tournament I doubt they even win their first match. We shall see...
Wolverines are a hard working team which can get hot during the tourney. They could go out the 1st round, or make the elite 8........ Darth, are you signing up for the PF yahoo bracket?
Probably not. I plan to spend a lot of time preparing for the fantasy baseball draft (We can still make room for you and detteam) and don't want to spend any time researching teams and watching the scoreboard of all the games. I normally don't prepare much for fantasy drafts and then spend all year trying to find good free agents because I screwed up. Plus the fantasy basketball playoffs are coming up and I don't want to get sidetracked there either. Good luck!
Thanks for the invite. You're very kind but I've got a lot going on right now. Don't be afraid to [STRIKE]pester[/STRIKE] ask me in the future..
Michigan has their eyes on a big high schooler. The player next to him is 6' 2" tall. At 7' 4" and 345 pounds, he may help to even up the rebounds advantage that MSU currently has.
Either Sparty beats lowly Iowa today in the Big Ten Tournament or the preseason #2 team can watch March Madness from their dorm rooms. whoulda thunk it?
