Draft for the Premier League starts on Oct. 15th. Check NBA.Com to watch PF.com's resident fantasy guy take on the Fantasy B-ball giants across the world. So far, we've had to select a team (out of the 30) and a franchise player from that team. The rating of the franchise player you selected determines your order in the the draft. GMs that selected a lower rated franchise player get a higher draft pick. I selected...The Detroit Pistons! My franchise player is Chauncey Billups. I attempted to land a Kobe/Laker type combo but by the time I was able to select they were all taken. Thought it was for the best anyway because I didn't want to play against our boys. If anyone from PF.com is following the league throughout the season and feels compelled to offer some advice, I definitely welcome it. All info on the league will be visible to the masses just like last year. Wish me luck!
Good luck, I'll check in to see how you're going! Billups is a PG which is a good start. But it looks like some people went for strategy and selected not so good players to get a higher draft pick. Still, I think you've made a good choice to pick a known quantity with your franchise player. Who are you looking at with your #20 pick?
Still doing some draft anlalysis. I'll PM you what I'm thinking. I don't want to risk any of the opposing GMs doing a search and finding out my trade secrets.
Hmm... So the Commissioner failed to mention that the draft would be a flat draft versus round robin. That would have definitely affected my selection of franchise player. I would have went for a sleeper pick to get a higher pick versus the best player on the team selected. Looks like I'm stuck with the 20th selection every round now. Do you think I have a legitimate gripe?
Absolutely. Getting stuck with the 20th pick in each round is a pretty big price to pay to have CB. I love him and all, but that's a bit too big of a price to pay IMO.
I asked the commish about it and he said that they drafted like that in the league last year so I should have known. lol. The D-League that I won was done in round robin fashion. I think they should have pointed out the difference or restated the rules verbatim from last year. They didn't even have the old rules posted on NBA.com. Oh well, nothing like a lil' controversy to start the season.
Nope. Can't see how that is fair. I asked the Commish how the GMs faired last year that had the top draft selections in the draft. He admitted that the GM in the first draft slot won the entire league but he isn't sold that draft positioning affected outcome that much. To which I answered....yeah, okay.
the guy is a tool. i reckon if you had your chance again you could have got someone like maxiell and got 2nd or 3rd pick. which would have been sweet.
So here's an update. I ended up drafting pretty well and cashing in on some sleeper picks. My current team really lacks a power forward, but my guard/small forward combination is sick! Here it is! Chauncey Billups Manu Ginobili Kelenna Azubuike Joe Johnson Mikki Moore Eddy Curry Damien Wilkins Kendrick Perkins In a league with 30 teams, that's not too bad. In the Week 2 standings I am currently sitting in the 1st place slot of my division. CENTRAL Detroit Pistons (me) ~ 11-4-1 Chicago Bulls ~ 6-10-0 Indiana Pacers ~ 5-11-0 Cleveland Cavs ~ 5-11-0 Milwaukee Bucks ~ 3-12-1 There are 4 other teams with a better record in the league but only by a game or two. Not bad, considering I didn't know the rules fully prior to the franchise player selection. This week we play Chicago. Hopefully I can stretch this lead out more.
Check me out! NBA.com: Premier Fantasy Championship II http://ufc2.nba.com/basketball/pfc/league_overview.asp I'm the Pistons!
Pulled off a major trade last week that is paying dividends for me now. Traded C. Billups (Detroit) and K. Perkins (Boston) for M. Ellis and S. Jackson (from Golden St.) My new team is: PG - M. Ellis (Golden St.) SG - M. Ginobili (San Antonio) SF - D. Wilkins (Seattle) PF - S. Jackson (Golden St.) C - E. Curry (Chicago) Util - J. Johnson (Atlanta) Bench - K. Akuizabe (Golden St.) Bench - M. Moore (Sacramento) Currently, I'm still in first place in my division with the second best record in the league. However, this week I play a team with a pretty good record as well. New York leads their division. Should be a close one. Since you can only set your lineups up once a week, I need to determine which is a better play. Ginobili for 2 games or Akuizabe(sp?) for 3 games or M. Moore for 5 games The critical cats I need to win are 3 pointers, Steals and FG%.
