There's a phenomenal flow chart of how each NBA team acquired their current team by a Wyn Douglas at wyndouglas.com

The first thing I noticed after looking at a few teams is that Joe has made by far the least amount of trades than any other team, especially compared to a team like the Knicks. And understandably, the flow chart does not show trades that generate draft picks, which is why Stuckey appears as a straight line, the only player on the current roster that was traded for another player is Rip. Again, Ben doesn't count, because the flow chart only shows current, once Ben left his relationship to GHill went away.

No real comments, other than stat freaks might enjoy the link, and the data confirms my belief that Joe is afraid to pull to trigger. Used to think people were afraid to trade with Joe, but after these past two seasons, the man is definitely afraid to pull the trigger.

Interesting family tree like flow-charts ...thanks for sharing

You are correct, the Pistons flow chart looks straight and easy to follow compared to other teams say like the Bulls where it looks like a complex matrix of transactions.

So it's draft or scrap heap for Joe.

This is an Excel spreadsheet turned into a flowchart. In the big picture, it says very little. This forum has forgotten more that any diagram will ever hope to direct or prove.

What's wrong with a spreadsheet turned into a flow chart?

I think these are pretty cool and very interesting. And it's a pretty elegant want to compress a lot of data into a very clear format.

I think it's pretty cool, too. It gives you a quick visual of how a roster was assembled. With the Pistons, it's interesting that 9 of the 15 guys are in their 1st or 2nd year with the squad.

Any chart that doesn't show Joe to be head and shoulders above everyone else is bogus!

I doubt that any of those complex charts (see Charlotte or Minnesota for instance) were planned ahead and executed. A lot of it seems like the GMs just made it up as they went along. Complexity also would come in when GMs try to pull lopsided trades to fix past mistakes (like how ours will get complicated when Joe unloads CV and Rip for 2 draft picks and 4 nobodys).

The biggest multi-year plan concocted by a GM (and that worked) would be Miami's and that one isn't that complex.

Another thing I noticed: I'm looking at this and the one that looks the most similar to Detroit seems to be the chart for Clippers. And we all know that LA Dre is a fan of both Pistons and Clippers. Coincidence? I think not.

That would explain what Joe has been up to for the past 5 years...

I was going to let you sweat for awhile and not reply at all....

but alas if were JD, then we would have at least three more titles as I (as Joe) would have made every move based on what Lee and buddha man preached circa 2005-2008:sssh:
