What can we do as fans, to get rid of Stern and get a commissioner who cares about the game? We need a commissioner who has played the game not a lawyer. Can we do a letter writing campaign to the owners? Can we all chip in and buy some newspaper space or media time? How can we be heard?

The NFL just got a new commish and the CFL gets a new one every 1-2 years so anything is possible.

    Well let's see...

David Stern makes the owners more $$$.
The owners can oust the resident commish.
    David Stern isn't going anywhere.

Bottom line is as long as Stern keeps boosting the incomes of the owners, he is going to be the commish. It's basically his until he doesn't want it anymore. Considering his obsession with power, that isn't going to be for a very long time.

    What he said. Yep.

Is there an appropriate phrase to describe the post that says all there is to say - quickly and thoroughly? What do you call a real thread-stopper?

We can only hope. Typically in other sports they replace the commish with someone already in the organization.

The Owners are conservative with their money. They don't have the guaranteed draw that football gets every Sunday.

I happen to believe that many more fans will watch the NBA if they got rid of the superstar calls, called every game the same and stopped changing the rules every year. The NBA does have an integerety problem with many would be fans.

But what do I know? I suppose they have done their market research and figured out that propping up Wade and Lebran draws in fans or whatever.

When Sheed retires, so there's no conflict of interest, I'm going to ask him to fund my referee watchdog group. It's sort of like a human-rights observer group for basketball players.
