Another player with upside who is not ready to contribute. Is that what team needs?

I would like this pick just because we need young front court players

Low basketball IQ and poor motivation. This could be our chance to [STRIKE]redo[/STRIKE] relive the Darko pick.

Joe D is trying to make his #15 pick look more valuable for a trade.

His b-ball IQ may not be up to snuff, but let's not forget he'll have Kwame Brown showing him the way.

In my opinion, this is a great pick. This draft sucks, so taking a risk at #15 is not really that risky. It is not like this is the #2 pick in a draft with Wade, Bosh, Carmelo, and others still on the board. This guy was ranked #1 in the nation coming out of high school by many groups. He scored 60+ points with 22 rebounds against a team nationally ranked. Yes, he is a project, but what if he worked out. Imagine 3 years from now Chris Bosh and BJ Mullens as our All-Star front court.

He could turn out to be Darko II, but at least I got to see him play before the draft. He's [strike]got plenty of potential[/strike] raw.

I think that the weakness of this draft is the only valid argument for taking him.

If we are contemplating picking Mullens and he could turn out to be Darko like project, then we might as well trade the 15th pick to Memphis for Darko:nerd2:

Need to go with one of those athletic guys at 15 who are already more skilled than Amir and Max and can surpassed them by midseason...or trade it for a seasoned vet

One of the issues, is that there are rumors that many teams are actually looking to trade their picks, so it might be a difficult proposition trying to trade this pick.

Dumb question - Whats the advantage in promising to take someone in the draft? You can take anyone you want so why limit your options like that?

Its basically just a sign of good will. The Pistons have a pretty good idea of who they will be choosing from, maybe they just see Mullens as the best fit. He might be 2 years away from contributing, but the Pistons are 2 years away from contending so...

Seems like we haven't learned our lesson from picking project players. If this was a 2nd round pick I wouldn't like it, but I would not be totally against it. I am not for picking a project player and then giving him a guranteed contract which is what the Pistons would be doing.

The question is - what are the alternatives? The draft is not deep at all, and there are multiple teams looking to trade their picks already. I don't know what would be a better move.

Maybe Dumars is sandbagging so that someone else will take him earlier and burn a pick. :stirthepot:

Joe is looking for an impact player. This guy does not fit that criteria at all. If he is picked up, I belive he will be traded. (carmello thought he had a promise as well)
