I'm down with bringing Darko back. DET would get a lot of "Team NBA" calls seeing that refs would be scared he's going to rape their sisters if they make a call against him.

Don't sell yourself short lee, you would have been every bit as good as Larry Brown.

We should look into what GS wants for Branden Wright, and the 14th pick. He's a stud, and not a Nellie player at all.

Tay seems like a good fit for them as does Sheed.

If we can somehow work out Tay/Max or for Wright/Ellis i would cry.

But at the same time do not sell yourself too aggressively, Lee - LB did that( all those "dream jobs" he mentioned) and you already know what happened.

I read somewhere that there might be a dark horse candidate for the coaching job. Somewhere out there Sammy Meija has his fingers crossed.

What would you think of signing Ron Artest? Probably could get him for the MLE. I know its a stretch in his case but we have had a lot of luck giving guys a 2nd chance here.

I will never forget that Darko led the league in blocks during the pre-season!

In fact, that brings to mind a few of my very favorite Pistons moments:

    1. of course, Darko leads the league in blocks during the preseason.

    2. Will Blalock hits that 3.

    3. Hubert Davis tells Cliff Robinson a funny joke on the bench, and Cliff totally cracks up.

Ahhh, the memories. Maybe I should start a new thread.

    Also

Carlos Arroyo led the league in dribbles per second in that same preseason.

Larry Brown did some job of transforming the team into one that constantly looked for the inside shot. I would not have tried that. Of course, I would have not handicapped myself all year by playing Ham as the backup small forward.

The regular season record would have been better for the Ham thing plus there would not have been a bunch of losses early while the team was being completely reprogrammed on how to play the game.

Darko would have played as a rookie, at small forward. Not much, but enough to focus his practices.

Corliss would have never played any power forward. He would be the starting small forward. Cliff Robinson and Darko would be his backups.

Sheed would have never came to the team, since I never attended NC.

Atkins would never have gotten any playing time.

Memo would have started that year, but never played more than 24 minutes per game.

Tay would never for one second have been too tired during the season, as he would have come off the bench, as a guard, behind both Billups and Rip.

Billups would have had superstar numbers that year. He was due, if Carlisle had remained the coach. Instead, with learning the new system, that did not happen. It would have happened if I were the coach.

We would have retained Cliff Robinson for that season, somehow. I value defense a ton. Cliff was still one heck of a defender when we let him go.

Ben Wallace would have come off the bench, but still played 33 minutes.

Start: Billups, Rip, Corliss, Memo, Elden Campbell.

Bench: Tay, Cliff Robinson, Ben Wallace, Darko

After about 6 minutes, Ben comes in to wreak havoc on defense. But note, he would not be a part of the starting unit, and not interfere with us getting an offensive game established to start games. A weak rebounder, Cliff Robinson, would come in with him a lot. (But note, while Cliff did not rebound well, he blocked out very well, allowing Ben some great numbers.)

Tay, playing as a guard, would always have a mismatch to exploit and he would not be playing along side both Billups and Rip at the same time - meaning he could be more of a scorer.

While I would not emphasize using the whole shotclock quite so much, I would insist on an inside game being established, and Corliss would be the focal point of that to start games.

The above rotation needs a guard who can play D and run the offense. Cleaves would do if noone better was available. Whoever it was would not play that much, but would allow us to go the a three guard set-up on occasion (Tay, Rip, Billups.)

I would have tried to trade for Dale Davis to complete the team

Gilbert Arenas just opted out. What would you be willing to pay him?

    No Arenas for me too.
I would happily take Caron Butler off their hands though.

All of you guys are sick of players that don't work hard every day..... and yet you vote no on Gilbert Arenas?

Agree on the hard worker bit, but...

    - he's a point guard and that doesn't seem the obvious place to rebuild this team to me, and

    - he's primarily a jump shooter, and won't help to increase points in the paint and getting fouled

His goal of making 100,000 three pointers in the off season means that he is crazy.

I think Gilbert is a funny intelligent guy, but I don't really think he's a Piston. I'd rather have him than Melo but obviously they play totally different positions. Plus you know he's looking for a max contract. I can see him going to the Clippers or maybe the T-wolves or something, somewhere where he can be numero uno and turn a team around. Most likely I think he'll stay in DC.

I think he is a funny guy also, love to see him on TV. Can't say that I would ever consider him self-less or the kind of guy that makes his team better. I believe they were actually better without him last year.

That is the baffling thing about NBA teams. It's so hard to believe that adding a player as talented as Arenas or Carmello wouldn't make a team better, but there are situations where that is the case.
