Don't think that Stanton will adapt to the Martz system. I think his temperment is close to Brett Favre, and Brett wouldn't have such a rigid system. If Martz leaves than who would stay on to continue his system? Wouldn't they just start a new system? Do you think that Martz is marketable as a head coach AGAIN? He is older now and not the easiest coach to have on board.............. I'd rather have seen Stanton go to another team where he'd have a chance to develop HIS game...............
You guys got me thinking about the likely scenario of Martz booking for the next coaching gig.... Sometimes continuity can be more important than skills (current Pistons)... This team needs to have a system and stick to it for more than two years at a time... if Martz does move on I would like to see one of his proteges take over as offensive coordinator... I believe in his system... it's been successful.
The people who I respect the most when it comes to predicting the future of the NFL are the ..................... Vegas Betting Line........... Go to Vegas and see the results of their labor. Lots of money flowing, mostly into the pockets of each resort......... Interesting NFL lines posted before AND AFTER the draft.................. These lines are the odds to be in the Superbowl........... 49ers BEFORE DRAFT 25 to 1 odds........After Draft 18 to 1 Pats BEFORE DRAFT 9 to 1 odds........After Draft 5 to 1 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....... the smell of success........... Lions BEFORE DRAFT 40 to 1..........(not bad) After Draft 45 to 1 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....... the smell of Millen..............
I can't believe the odds are that good for the Lions. I'm considering levering up and putting my entire life savings on them to NOT get there.
Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News gave Detroit one of only 4 "A" grades for this year's draft, saying that they got value in every single round. DE Alama-Francis A bit more about Lions' 2nd round pick, DE Alama-Francis from Hawaii from his former coach. Alama-Francis 'special,' says Glanville
Re: DE Alama-Francis I love the positive attitude that I see amongst many Lions fans. It allows me to spill my negativity around with little effect. I'm at the point in my Lion fandom where I'll accept nothing less than results. No positive comments til they post a 7-9 season. To me, that is the beginning measure of success that I must see to claim that true progress has been made. I still appreciate those who are able to lift their heads high, and continue to cheer for the Honolulu Blue and Silver (without skimpy black stripes)..............................
Re: DE Alama-Francis I gotta tell you, your negativity is starting to bum me out. Don't get me wrong, the Lions suck and have sucked for a long, long time. I'm not delusional, just hopeful that eventually we'll turn the corner. As a Lions fan, there's no better time for optimism than in the offseason, because once the season starts, it's all down hill! :P I'm not exactly expecting a Super Bowl this year. I've gone on record with a 6-10 prediction. But I do think that we're finally starting to head in the right direction - no thanks to Matt Millen.
So far, I've liked what I've been hearing about all of the Lions' draft picks. Other than CJ, they weren't exactly "sexy" picks, with most people never hearing of them before. But it doesn't matter if we've heard of them before the draft, it's that they become household names after it that counts.
When one of the big national talking heads writes something, I will get more excited. The Lions and FoMoCo are big advertisers in town and the Detroit media are famous for mixing the koolaid during the preseason. That said, it would do wonders for my perception of Matt's ability as a GM if he was able to dig up late round gems.
If that MS QB can show some leadership skills - forget his arm - he will make this draft an A. This team has been leadership dead since Millen got here. No CB no Yzerman no Pudge no playoffs.
I'm obviously an MSU Kool-Aid peddler so take this for what it's worth. Stanton can lead...and if things aren't going according to the playbook, he ain't afraid to do whatever it takes to get the ball upfield. That's leading by example. The only Lions QB I've seen do that with even mediocre success in recent history is Charlie Batch. The rest of em have been content to take their pounding when the pocket breaks down.
That's what I'm talking about. 'Cept Batch kept breaking down. And he wasn't that fast. Rodney Peete wasn't bad. Greg Landry could move the chains.
