I think the fouls were the results of riding the pine until garbage time; not the other way around. He expected to play sooner then he did and I think this is something to watch in the coming games.

He does it to the 2's and 3's he plays with too.

Maybe he started talking on defense and got confused with the responses he was getting resulting in him being out of position which led to him committing fouls.

or maybe

He misunderstood Flipper and AJ started talking to the refs which led to the fouls.

Its amazing how much trouble a person can talk themselves into. LOL
