My understanding is that the answers are hypotheical quotes from another GM when his assistant tells him that Dumars is trying to reach him. The premise would be that if they are interested in returning Joe's call, then a trade is likely to occur. But then I don't understand the last one where they are telling Joe to say hi to Tommy as the highest odds scenario (based on the order).

    Trade buzz
Anthony distances himself from Nuggets - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

    I'd go with this trade:
    NBA Trade Machine - ESPN

The Celts get Hamilton and unload their plethora of useless SGs.

NJ gets rid of Murphy without a buyout and also gets rid of Harris' contract. They get to try out Stuckey and Prince for the rest of the year. They essentially convert Harris' $9M contract into a bunch of expiring contracts.

We get Murphy's expiring, a decent PG and a broken down center in O'Neal. We essentially trade Prince's expiring for Murphy's but convert Rip's contract into Devin Harris/Jermaine O'Neal. We can then buy out O'Neal so he can go back to Boston, or have him be Arnie's next pet project.

Going into the summer we'll have:

    Harris/Bynum
    Gordon
    Daye
    Monroe/CV
    O'Neal/JMax

And the expiring contracts of Murphy & Wilcox. We'll need to use some of re-up TMac (if he stays) and JJ. Which is no different than where we are now, except we don't have to deal with re-upping Stuckey and we no longer will have Rip's contract.

Be nice to fire Q and trade Gordon instead.

according to Silvertongue: as long as Dumars feels that playoffs are realistic target - Dumars won't trade Tay ( unless he gets really good offer, ofcourse)

He needs to stop feeling and start doing math. There's no way we're making the playoffs. Even if we do, we're looking at a 1st round sweep. What's the point?

That's posturing from a marketing standpoint.
...Can't admit to the fans that the season is basically pointless at this juncture.

What are the odds that Joe even knows the trade deadline is approaching?

Being the best you can be.
Setting a good example for the children out there.
Respecting yourself in the Lord's eyes.
Avoiding all possibility of getting another #2 draft pick
Getting 2 games of Playoff attendance at the Palace
    ...

That's about all I can think of.

Well the Nets and Nuggets are back in discussions. Maybe Joe will re-engage in that deal that will give us Troy Murphy and Johan Petro, as well as the ultra-versatile Capp Spayce!

And you might win 25 games with that front court.

In other words, we may have mathematically attained the least desirable position in the NBA where short term and long term goals are equally unlikely.
