Hence why Joe is still around.

I cant wait for Indiana to be disposed of, and Phil Jackson hires Brian Shaw as his first move.

Hmmm detroit camp has been rather quiet lately.

I still don't think Dumars gets the can and Phil Jackson ain't working in Detroit.

Which is why maybe he should go with the guy like Joe who has a better feel of that the Pistons need rather than Checkets or Jackson who were only trying secure a gig for their friends and aquaintances.

Maybe Shaw doesn't want to coach in Detroit.

Gores had to have known that Phil would advocate Shaw. So the question in my mind is why he retained him and announced it. What does he want Phil to actually do if it's not to convince Joe of his opinion?

It's all about track record and this is a big decision.
Gores must like options, don't back him in a corner.

I'm saying that I think he backed himself into the corner. It's now an insult to Zen Master to publicly announce that he's giving you advice, publish his advice, and then NOT take it. That's like saying that you don't think he is giving good advice.

I peeked into the Clipper forum and they are having the same heated discussion as we are having over hear regarding who will be the next coach to take them to the promise land.

So far at the top of their list is Hollins if the Grizz don't resign him, and then Byron Scott and Alvin Gentry. Their long shots are One of the Van Gundy's, McMillan and Shaw. The consensus over there is that they want a veteran coach and not a newby like Shaw.

Joe needs to make decision on McMillan or Shaw as one of them maybe in LA coaching the Clips while he is still grappling around with Phil.

    2. Joe Dumars is the Pistons president
    3. Gores can't bring himself to fire Joe
    4. Phil Jackson gets himself hired on as a consultant and recommends Brian Shaw
    5. Brian Shaw is a big(!) combo guard
    6. Joe sees Shaw prowling the sidelines during the games and tries to sign him
    7. Gores fires Joe and replaces him with Jackson

I think I'm in the Brian Shaw camp. That Ball Don't Lie the other night was enough to reel me in. If I knew he could also lead the pre-game huddle dance I'd be sold.

Anyone else concerned at the seeming lack of progress on the coaching search, as other teams snap guys up? And are people generally looking for Shaw and McMillan?

That's what I am thinking - they are waiting for Shaw to finish the playoffs.

In that case one has to hope Phil has tapped Shaw up and Joe therefore knows the interest is mutual. Because I can see the Clips snapping up McMillan very soon.

It has to have come down to McMillan vs. Shaw. And since the Pistons haven't moved on McMillan, the winner must be Shaw. The Pistons have to be counting on the fact that Phil Jackson can convince Shaw to come to the Pistons, because he will probably be getting other offers (Nets). It would be a mess if we swing and miss with Shaw, and in the mean time, McMillan signs with the Clippers. Then we'd be reduced to the likes of Mo Cheeks and the rest. Yikes. Perhaps we'll force Larry Frank back into the coach's chair. We're still paying him $4million after all.

The only guy left would be BL... which might be Zen Master's scheme. Brilliant!

wow...really? "Weak BS?" I think I'm entitled to my opinion. Dumars has done nothing but play safe political baseball the entire time he's had the job. He's never had to convince ownership of something they weren't already in the pocket on. He clearly wanted Woodson, but it doesn't sound like he really pushed to get the new owner to hire him. You don't have to be insubordinate, but you can still push if you really want something in the power structure. Dumars doesn't rock the boat. EVER. Laimbeer would potentially rock his boat...Dumars wants no part of it, IMO (which I still believe I'm entitled to).

And bang goes the popcorn, left too long in the microwave.

I disagree that it was about safety. I think he stuck to what he knew. Finding high character guys and putting them in the right place. When he stepped outside of his comfort zone we ended up with Ben Gordon, Allen Iverson and Charlie V. Now he has moved back inside, we ended up with Monroe, Drummond and Knight. High character, hard working guys. If he stays in this place, I will support him. If he tries to play showmanship with Jackson, then he has lost my faith.
