I agree that the GM (Joe Dumars) has no accountability.
I have a problem with what JVG said. Its not that Dumars should be absolved from criticism its that he never really understood the franchise he tossed under the bus. Gores lays out Dumars and Frank. Frank sends ultimatum. Frank is fired. Do we honestly believe that these guys are a bunch of kids pointing fingers at each other in the principal's office? JVG hates the Pistons, doesn't follow the Pistons, doesn't research the Pistons or speak from any level other than his gut. For all his knowledge about basketball, he has about as much insight as the guy in the bar down the street. Furthermore, the coaching carousel has gone on since RC. The team was at the top and it still rotated coaches out. Its not about talent you ass.
Cleveland is one step ahead of us. Cleveland Cavaliers reach out to Phil Jackson about open coaching position, sources say - ESPN
Lebron would join him I'm assuming.
The only coach who would excite me is Laimbeer, and he's not going to get hired as long as JD is here.
I like JVG, but not sure he would take the job fearing that he would be fired too after a season. I do prefer him over Stan VG Phil Jackson is not coming to Auburn Hills unless there is a superstar or 2 on the roster that carry him his team to the finals or at least the conference final the first season. If Phil can leave the Lakers for a couple of seasons and then can come back and lead them to two more titles, then there is no reason to think that Larry Brown can't do it..but it may take more than a year get to the promise land. After all, if LB's beef was with the Davidsons, there is no one there now to cause any issues. Sometimes it is time for a college coach to make the jump to the NBA....Pitino did it, LB did it, and Calipari did it.....yeah only one was successful, but I think that Izzo could be the exception. After all he did have more "head" coaching experience than Curry or Kuester. As with everyone else, I am still on the Laimbeer bandwagon. If there is an issue between he and Dumars, then Gores has to overrule any Dumars objections and sign him. If Joe still objects, then Gores should make Bill the GM and coach like he was with the Shock. After all the best coach in the NBA right now is Popovich and he wears both hats.
I'd rather have Sloan than even Phil Jackson. 1) Jackson's not going to coach a team unless it's the best team in the league - to keep his false reputation alive. 2) If he were to come here, for an inordinate amount of $$, I doubt he'd be all-in.
Phil wants to be in charge with players that can win....he is not coming to Detroit to coach. (too cold as both Shaq and Barkley say) However if both he and Gores thought he could attract talent to the team including a great coach and good players, he could take over Joe's job.
This is all Joe's pick. Gores is so angry with how Frank turned out that he banished Checketts outside the circle of trust. It's great to hear that Joe is once again free of his shackles until you remember that he hired Mike Curry the last time he was free.
I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches out to LB again. There aren't really too many options. Jackson is a complete no from me.
Actually this team is actually at a point in its growth that Larry would be ideal, they need teaching and growth.... Still think that was the problem last time, the team won the championship, his job was done in his mind so he started looking for a way out.
LB wore out his welcome. No thanks.
Jerebko's dad would be a bold move.
Lee would have to re-work his rotations.
Oh I agree not saying I wanted him back... just saying he would probably be better long term for the team now then he was in 04.
Is there any concrete evidence for this? For instance, did Dumars and Laimbeer always fight when they were teammates? Was there some issue where the two of them got into it during their post-NBA careers? I'm extremely curious if there is validity to this Dumars is mortally opposed to hiring Laimbeer notion. So far, it seems like this is simply the only plausible speculative explanation that fans could think of as to why Dumars has not done something that is such a no-brainer from where we stand.
Only with the dead guy...hardly matters now.
I read an article yesterday that kind of summed it up: Joe Dumars: Not in favor of Bill Laimbeer as Detroit Pistons coach THIS: "Dumars is not looking for a coach that would be more popular than he is. That’s what would potentially happen with Laimbeer."
Screw that...if it's a nasty dunk, I want a pose.
Anyone who puts Alvin Gentry on a list of potential coaches, should be fired themselves.
