I've got to think that ATL can do better than Joe Smith for Harrington. Heck, I wouldn't even trade Joey Harrington for Joe Smith! :P
I think Magette was unhappy with his playing time even though he spent half the season on the DL. Maybe Dunleavys mama wants him near mom and dad.
Not a offseason move, but didn't know where to put it. Anyway, Riley to continue to coach Heat next year: link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/basketball/nba/08/23/riley.ap/index.html
Coach Mike Montgomery was dismissed by the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, and Don Nelson was ready to step in. Golden State will re-hire Nelson, the second-winningest coach in NBA history and the last coach to lead the downtrodden Warriors to the playoffs, on Wednesday, a league source told The Associated Press.
The Hawks added depth to their frontcourt Wednesday with the signing of free-agent forward-center Lorenzen Wright. Terms were not disclosed. However, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the deal is worth nearly $3 million for two years.
Very nice move getting Wesley. I'm a little bit familiar with him because he was on my fantasy team for a couple of brief stints last year. I think he'll really help them out. He has skill plus brings leadership to the table.
From The Sac Bee: Free agent and former Kings shooting guard Bonzi Wells still doesn't have a contract, but it appears he will have a new agent. According to two agents, Wells has fired William Phillips, who could not broker a deal for his only NBA client. Coming off a wondrous postseason, Wells was considered among the top free agents. But Wells and Phillips reportedly turned down a five-year, $36 million offer from the Kings. Phillips said he was negotiating with six teams, but no deal was consummated. Wells has informed the Kings that he would like to return, a notion Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said was impractical because payroll is approaching the luxury tax threshold. Also, they signed John Salmons to replace Wells. Phillips did not return an e-mail seeking comment. -- Sam Amick
Tell me what you are thinking Roscoe? I know there is not enough cash in Davison's salary cap bank, but is there possible S & T availble?? Maybe packaging a combo of Hunter, Cato, Delfino? I am pulling at straws here, but this offseason for the Pistons has not materialized into anything positive and we have less than 3 weeks to training camp for Joe to pull a rabbit out of his hat
I'm thinking it sounds like a bargain is brewing. Bonzi's going to have to do something so he can feed his family this year.
Well if CD wants to walk, we can't expect to compete with Dupree as the backup, and Flip Murray is a PG (sic). We've got 2 trade exceptions to use (around $2.2 million total). Could easily throw in Cato on minimum deal (NBA pays a chunk of veteran minimum contracts). Maybe our Minny second rounder as sweetener. Win-win for Sactown They don't want to add salary, and they don't want Wells back. But Joe probably doesn't want to add any salary. So...
If he wants to keep the Pistons competitive and Bonzi was on his orginal offseason agenda, then he needs to make this happen and bite the bullet on the salary.
How much does Bonzi realistically expect to sign for at this point? He seems to have become the odd man out among prominent free agents this summer, for whatever reason. Maybe he would be willing to sign a short-term deal for less than he thought he would get, and go back on the market in a year or two.
Bonzi may be screwed... The Kings salary is currently over 62M for next season... they're right up against the lux tax... any S&T will be very costly to them... Petrie has already mentioned that they don't want to go into the tax. So, Bonzi has to hope teams with cap still have their MLE (he turned down more than the MLE already) or settle for table scraps for a year. To bad our Trade exception is only around 1.5M... I wouldn't think he'll have to settle for that (in a trade).
Roscoe, what is the break down of these two T.E.s? I'm thinkin' about a trade but we can't combine T.E.s
