Just watched Toronto beat NJ, helping us stay ahead of NJ for a playoff spot. Jersey is a winning team of late, so needed the help.

Lets talk about that trade. For Gay, Toronto got Salmons, who directly replaces most of what Gay ever did for Toronto. (While Ross is starting now, and developing, and doing very well indeed with Gay out of the way.) In addition, Toronto got a very capable backup point in Vasquez, who keeps the Toronto offense running well while Lowry rests. Note, I know there has been a lot of talk about Lowry leaving Toronto, but I think that predates the fact Toronto is now well into first place, looking like a solid winner with Lowry running things, and so I don't think he is going anywhere.

But hey, Toronto also got a very capable rebounder in Patrick Patterson, who is very capably backing up Amir Johnson these days, as well as playing quite a few minutes along side Amir.

And finally, they got Chuck Hayes. Chuck Hayes is a solid vet who has not been played much by Toronto to this point. But in this game, Toronto was sputtering mid third quarter when he and Patterson entered the game. Shortly, Toronto went on a 17-0 run.

And finally, got to mention DeRozan, who may be benefiting the most from the Gay trade. DeRozan, with getting more shots these days, looks a whole lot steadier on his shot, which he can, at 6-7 and having lots of ups, get off over most defenders just fine.

A couple of quick comments over some games I watched. Of many. Orlando lost in triple overtime. Almost did not watch this one since Afflalo was not playing. But it proved interesting watching Oladipo score a whole lot. And the Washington win over Miami. I erased that one after the first quarter. Washington was so far ahead it could not keep my interest. A 20 - 0 run. Wow. I note they put Nene back in the starting unit for this game. Sure worked. And I noted Miami was way too reliant on jump shots, none of which they were hitting in this one.

The Rockets score 73 points in the first half to lead the Thunder by 12 at the half....they lose the game by 12 after scoring only 19 in the second half to set an NBA record for the largest point differential between halves. Was Mo coaching them in the second half??

Deadspin had a recent analysis that made mo look good. We're one of the best teams in the league in terms of improving our expected outcome on O and D right after time outs.

Clippers sign Hedo Turkoglu - CBSSports.com

If this guy shoots 45% from the field and averages 12+PPG, we will second guess why Joe didn't call him in for a tryout. He was just sitting out there waiting for a call.....all you had do was work him out to see if he was about 90% as decent as Singler ...but that means somebody would have to be released or Joe could have put Billups on the back burner bench with Sheed... I figure Doc will give him 10 minutes a game to see what he has to offer.

Hedo is a fat, lazy, washed up 3 point jacker who hasn't been good since like 2010. I would much rather Joe pick up the phone to have a quick chat with Michael Redd, at least we could use his shooting off the bench.

Take out the fat and lazy and you might be describing Billups?

Doc tried out Steven Jackson via a 10 day and he really looked fat and lazy. Didn't Redd retire because his knees couldn't hold up?

Jorts is the younger, more athletic, and harder working version of Hedo.

Just watched Boston end their 9 game losing streak by beating Toronto in a close one. Toronto shot their own selves in the foot by missing 13 free throws. They really should have won. Boston had Sullinger going great guns, pulling down 20 boards. And on offense, he started out slow. But then got some to go on post ups / near the basket stuff. Then he nailed a triple. And kept putting in points off his rebounds to the tune of 25 before the end of the game. First 20/20 game by a Celt since Garnett in '07. Toronto also missed a bunch of shots they usually make, seems the Leprechauns were out in full force. Avery was the other scoring star for Boston.

Just started watching the Toronto - Minny game. Although Pekovic and Love and very physical players, athletic is the last thing they are. And in this game, its showing big time at the start of the game with Minny getting smeared pretty bad to start. Back to watch the end of that one.

Just watched the rest. Minny adjusted, used Turiaf and Mbah a Moute a lot to offet the athleicism of Toronto. In the end though, it was the hot shooting of Lowry that won the day for Toronto. Amir had a great game, keeping a solid clamp on Love's game while scoring 19 himself.

Been binge watching games. Four Orlando games, then 3 Washington games. Best shot I saw, Greene hitting a 3 as time ran out and defenders all over him to help send the game into OT, where Boston won. In the same game, the best performance from a rook, Phil Pressey hitting 5 of 6 triples among other good stuff from him. And the craziest shot goes to Wall, who hit the ultimate circus shot. As he was falling down, he flipped the ball over his shoulder -at a point where not any part of his body was more than a few feet off the floor. I had to slow mo that to see how he did not get injured from the shot. Turns out he did a nifty, though dangerous, shoulder roll as he hit. Hororable mention goes to Olidipo on games by a rookie.

Barn burner tonight in Toronto as the Clippers and Raptors raced to a 71-65 Clipper halftime lead. Jamal Crawford had 26 pts at the half and the Raptors Terrance Ross had 23.

With five minutes left in the game, the Raptors held a 106-105 lead and Ross was sitting at 46 points. The Clippers put together a big 21-12 close out out to win 126-118. Ross was held scoreless the next 4 minutes scoring a bucket and then 3 free throws in the last 35 seconds to finish with 51 points to tie Vince Carter's franchise record.

After getting points 49 and 50 at the line with 32 seconds left, the crowd cheered Ross, already knowing that the game was lost. The Clippers tried to assist in him setting a new record by fouling him with 4 seconds left. Ross hit the first FT to tie Carters record, but missed the second one so he could not set a new scoring record. He was 10-17 from beyond the arc....

Crawford who had 26 in the first half finished with 37 points and 11 assists.

That guy averaged less than 10 ppg before this game. When was the last time a sub-10 ppg scored 50+?
