The Detroit Pistons are not the Boston Celtics of yesteryear that won what......10 championships in a row, that is unheard of in these NBA times.

All the elite basketballt teams, Bulls won championships, then they went into the crapper, Lakers won cahmpionships, then they went into the tank, Boston, we know how they sucked up until last year, now it is our time to suck and recover.

There is no blame here, Dumars made some changes that I would certainly question, however, that is the nature of the evolution of basketball, law of averages say that we cannot win a championship, year, after year, after year..........

The best thing Joe could have done was to get rid of Billups, grab that AI expiring contract, and begin working on the reclamation project.

If somehow we rebuilt the pistons based on some draft predictions, free agents, trades i.e., that the forum members have recommended, we would have a true fuster cluck. Its scary; just as an after thought regarding some of our predictions.

We probably won't be good next year, but the year after, I expect to be right back in the thick of things, its called the EVOLUTION of basketball.

The fans will not always get it right and lord knows pistons management will not always get it right despite the genius of Joe D. This team will be rebuilt, it's just a matter of time before we know the identity of our new Pistons team.

I would say, get you a tall one, set your sights on the upcoming nfl draft, put your hopes on the Red Wings and Tigers winning championships because it will be a little bit before we get back to respectablility (A season or 2).

This upcoming season will be a transition year for the pistons and will most likely be running with a whole new team, as well as, a new coach. I think Curry will keep his current salary and just move to the front office where Joe can utilize his strengths elsewhere because as it turned out, he CANNOT coach.

I can see Joe bringing in a point guard friendly coach that can mentor our young guards. Rip, Tay, Sheed and Amir is more than likely goners.

I would like to move up or trade for another high first round draft choice. I would like to see this team made up of a group of young athletic, physical studs with serious mean streaks, then grab Artest and another veteran with leadership skills like Caron Butler and/or Shane Battier.

My fear is that we go through 10 years of sub .500 basketball, adrift in a quagmire of lost experiments.

Already did that back in the 1990's. Dumars often talks about the lessons learned from that.

Good thread Armygirl. This is a new experience for a lot of fans but it is something that every team goes through - even the Lakers.

The reconstruction will not be short, but by the transfer of CB will be less traumatic.
Rip Hamilton may stay next seasson but Joe Smith contract expires in 2010,we need this player as future starter SG of Pistons.
Tay is obvious he can´t stop Lebron or Pierce, his game has stagnated and is part of our offensive problems.
If we have top defensive back court players Tay deffense will not be a heavy problem.
Paul Misllap is strong, young and athletic, just we need to build a team with a future.
Stuckey and Bynum are best combo and futurible covert position, unless Stuck is not a real PG we can wait and see his evolution next years,His shooting percentage should improve also his assist per game.
I hope Maxiel play better next years,Amir i think he will be dealt.
Kwame is a good role player for center position keeping his salary level after 2010.
My trade hopes are Chris Bosh(with Misllap as bench player?),one risk operation over Greg Oden, and wait building with low draft pick next year opportunities like Joe Smith and for 2011,Marc Gasol,Aldridge or T Outlaw. Some of this player could finish in detroit, are future important players to win tittles.
I think tay and AJ will be gone next year.
I would keep Affalo in the team over Rip,for future is a war dog player,i have high hope with this player like defender especialist and perimeter shooter.
Detroi Basketball forever¡¡¡¡¡¡ in win or lose¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

*I've forgotten it, sign a good coach to create a style of play and attract free agents.

We should get a team with players who can stop CP3, Joe Johnson, Lebron, Dirk Nowitski, and Dwight Howard. Also, these players should be offensive juggernauts too if possible.

I'm having so much trouble getting it in my mind that 2010 is actually really close to figure out anything intelligent to say.

When I first saw the thread title I though it was some far future version of the Pistons.

I just wish the Pistons would stop being so cheap! What is their reluctance to bring in a young 7'2 310lb C who runs like a deer, rebounds, block shots, passes the ball and can get them 25-30 points per game? Are they running a bake sale or a basketball team?

Yeah. But he is only 1 man. We need more hulking blondes that look like characters from cheesy romance novels.

Amygirl, thanks for speaking out. The decline was coming and almost inevitable. Nothing the coach could have done and no GM could have staved it off forever. Not saying Curry is not an issue but really, but the personnel is just not there.

I would hope that our rebuilding era could look like my custom teams from my NBA LIVE '98 days, but we really don't have enough money to stock our bench with players. We are 20 mil or so under the cap with iverson and that cannot buy up more than one current all star. If we went after an all star like boozer. That would eat up more than half of the money right there, and we still have a lot of team left to build.

Seems like Joe D is going to stock this team with a bunch of rag tag under valued players or slightly past their prime players with expiring contracts that will work hard and be good teammates. Once a core begins to gel, then it makes sense to bring in a big star. This summer I'm expecting some Drew Gooden or Shawn Marion, or maybe even Artest out of the free agent market, and maybe a trade for like Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman or maybe Tyson Chandler.

roscoe/cap experts, how much money does Joe really have to spend this off season? Aren't Maxi, Amir, etc due for raises? How much does this leave in uncommitted funds?
