If Joe Dumars Trade Ben Wallace... I'll be done with the Pistons until Joe Dumars leaves the organization. And I would start looking for other teams to follow and became a fan.
I would be okay with Joe packaging Ben Wallace with Tay or Rip if he could get back something in return.
What if the Nuggs really traded for Big Ben and Rip? And then Nuggets win the title this year with Billups, Rip and Big Ben as starters. Would that mean that we were one Carmelo Anthony away from numerous titles?
If that trade went down then I seriously could not watch the Nugetts without pounding my fist through the tv set. Especially if he was traded for another 2nd round pick.
Yeah, I am sure Joe demanded AA in return for Ben, but Denver said we pretty much would have to give them the whole team to get Afflalo back. And we would have to throw in draft picks.
The Nuggets would have to sign Darvin Ham and Tremaine Fowlkes to 10-day contracts in order to get a true measure.
Ben has definitely shown better this year than everyone thought, but I wonder if injuries were the main cause of the off years. A bit part of it, sure, but it seems more than health was necessary for this current rejuvenation. I think he just didn't like the hired gun role. He'd rather be Jimmy Stewart than Yul Brenner. A trade to a contender seems like something all players would want, but I suspect Ben is happiest playing out the string here where he feels comfortable.
In the negotiating phase out here in LA >> A Camby to Portland for Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw. The Blazers have needed a big man since Oden and Pryzbilla went down
Some news that the Pistons went after Chris Kaman, and nibbled at Boozer and Amare. NBA trade deadline: The latest buzz - ESPN
Just more proof Dumars continues to go after losers. Kaman has his abilities, but note his club just continues to lose. He ain't that good. Furthermore, by keeping Rip, a guy who can't handle the ball, and loves to shoot, you know that Kaman would never actually get the ball anyway. Seems Dumars has completely missed the boat when it comes to common sense lately. Trading Rip, the problem, for Kaman would actually make sense. And of course it should have been done last year, not Billups for AI. Mind you, Rip for anyone like Kaman, who can score in the post, makes lots of sense. You go from a jump shooting crazy team to a team with a logical offense based on inside play. Some complain that Tay playing injured has cost us games, and while I would agree to a point, it has been much more the return of Rip Hamilton, and his contagious (in a very bad way - think measles) jump shooting game that has really lost us games. I am going to comment on a different thread here since its a related subject. Bad contracts. I will agree with Rip's age, and his game that does not fit most team's plans, is a bad contract. But Ben Gordon is the kind of guy who can fit in with a lot of teams. He adds ball handling abilities, can hit from three land well, and can bust moves inside to compliment a team's inside game plans. (And of course I think JMAX is a bargain, the kind of player every team needs to play solid inside D.)(And if Tay gets healthy, and is not overplayed to the point he becomes ineffective, he remains my favorite player.)
Maybe a new owner will want to replace Joe D, but I'll believe that when I see it. Right now, his job is as safe as any GM in BB.
If a new owner does think about replacing Joe here, I will go out on a limb here and say that the way Laimbeer handled both the coaching and GM duties for the Shock, he may not do a bad job sitting in Joe's current seat. After all, he would have more experience at the GM if he took over this summer than Joe had when he took over 10 years ago. He would fall right into the Danny Ainge/Larry Bird/Mitch Cupcake mode of general managing where they were handled the jobs based on??? Plus I expect all of the Twolves coaches to be fired or a couple maybe replaced this summer....
