Unfortunately, there is no team that can stay on the top for too long. There are teams that hit a jackpot either in the draft or through trades/free agency and manage to stay there longer, but eventually all have to go through some sort of rebuilding process.
Brendan Haywood just agreed to a 9 mil per year 6 year deal in Dallas. You just can't sign guys to those contracts if you're retooling, less you cripple your team for years --- see the Knicks.
Thats a lot of money for someone who has averaged over 10 points once in his carrier, and 10 rebounds once. Plus he had a stellar playoff run last year averaging 6 and 6.
This is not too much for a starting caliber center, whose numbers should increase once he gets starter minutes.
Yeah Dave Pemberton, the writer of this piece is or was a pf member...so he shares our pain and expresses it along with his other writing talents. Good job Dave!!
Holy crap, Travis Outlaw just got 5 years/$35 Million!!!!! Suddenly our contracts look fantastic. I don't get people bashing Dumars for missing out again. I don't see how we could have got Bosh, he wanted to play with Wade. We aren't more attractive to LeBron then the other destinations, and really, do we want him here?
Ofcourse, people only love to hate the top dog as long as he plays for another team. He would probably make this a playoff team by himself. He might annoy people with his ego and he is not the most likable person but saying he isn't the best player in the league today is just silly imo.
Agree, some of us might on the surface be upset or shocked if he were to say "I choose the Pistons" tonight (quick how many guys would we have to give up and in a sign and trade) but by July 31st, we would all be on the bandwagon trying to count victories and compare this team to our last championship team
I don't really care for him, and with his history against us, I'd rather have a guy like Bosh or Wade. LeBron just doesn't appeal to me.
I would much, much rather pay Joe Johnson the max to play on this Piston team then pay Gordon what he is getting to do the same. Johnson could play the 3 some (he said threesome heh, heh) and get on the floor for more than 25 minutes per game.
Well call me silly. But if he played for us, YES I would be happy and root for him. I'm a PISTON FANatic, I root for every Piston, hell I rooted for Cheikh Samb for crying out loud, I'm scouring the Draft Express combine numbers so that I can be optimistic about Terrico White being another Monta Ellis, so yeah I'd be happy, but since he doesn't play for my team.....Buh-BYE!
Pistons blog: Pistons made offer for Bobcats' center Tyson Chandler | freep.com | Detroit Free Press That would of been nice.
I'm glad that at least they are trying, it seems like the rest of the league, understandably, might not value our guys as much as we do.
Trying won't make this team better. There really is nothing left to be done. Get ready for the same roster that ended the season to begin the season, with the addition of a couple draft picks, who may or may not get significant game time to develop.
Been away from my laptop and blackberry all day, some I wasn't privy to any info. I turned on NBA TV hoping for some new info a the bottom of the screen ticker to give me some news when DET showed.....SOS,,,C Ben Wallace signs to two year deal with Pistons....not a darn thing more....same old stuff for the past 5 days...not even a Will Bynum signing....I guess we will have the same team next season with no leaders and no identity...
You could probably use the process of elimination to work out what our identity won't be if that's any help...
