<H3>Pistons close to deal with Walter Sharpe

An NBA source has confirmed with WDFN's Matt Dery that the Pistons are close to a deal with draft pick Walter Sharpe.July 21, WDFN.com: A League source tells WDFN's Matt Dery that the Pistons close to signing second round pick Walter Sharpe to a two year contract. Sharpe was the team's first of three second round picks out of UAB. Also, WDFN has learned that the Pistons have offered Will Bynum a one year deal to be their third point guard. Bynm played very well for the Pistons summer league team in Las Vegas.

Detroit: Could this be why Artest was so interested in interviewing brawl instigator John Green a while back? It would be a brilliant PR move if the Pistons were looking to put a package together for Artest.
And from what I was told from one source close to the Pistons, they are. I've yet to get this info from more than one person, so stay tuned. But much like the Mavs' situation, this could be one of those where the player the Kings want (perhaps Tayshaun Prince) would be different than the one offered (Jason Maxiell, anyone?). Pure speculation on my part in terms of the potential pieces

That's interesting, to say the least.

Wow, nice work army! Thanks for including a link. :)

Bynum in, Hunter out. Why is it taking so long to sign Sharpe? He's a second round pick. He gets the league minimum, maximum of two years. No brainer.

I'd be ok with Artest in Detroit. Curry kinda looks like he could be his Uncle.

Artest would instill the toughness that we lost when Ben left. I am OK with trading straight up with Tay and draft picks ....

    :bs:rumor IMO

In any case although Artest crazy talented, pun intended, i can't support him on any team. One of his "personal" issues makes it impossible.

Ona side note, i was half asleep this morning watching ESPN and i remember hearing Steven A. Smith (grain of salt) talking about Artest. I have no idea what it was about (i think the Lakers), but he said GM's are reluctant to take a risk on Artest (potentially signing him to a long-term contract) because he's not taking his medication the way he's supposed to.

I'd rather take a risk on Artest getting us back to the Finals. What have we got to lose other than being a pretender with the same team?

Detroit signs Bynum as their 3rd pg is pretty interesting as it either moves Hunter into a suit or maybe makes CB even more expendable.

You can argue that if CB goes the Pistons are left with two pretty NBA inexperienced Points until you factor in Tay's ability to run the floor a bit at Point Forward. In either case it's food for thought.

(But I really want to hear Taters opinion on the matter;)

Bynum, Sharpe agree to terms with Pistons

Bynum buckled the Euro trend by signing with Pistons for a much lower $$$. He's guaranteed 1-year at $700K with 2-nd year being team's option.

    No terms disclosed for Sharpe.

Wow! Will's desire to play in NBA is right there!

It is sad that in Pistons those, who have desire, sit on the bench ,but those, who are lacking fire, play alot. Especially in POs.

Hopefully that's why Joe brought Curry in.

It would be a huge gamble, but I've always been intrigued by the possibility of building another defense that other teams dread.

Tay for Artest could possibly make Joe look incredibly stupid in another year or two if things don't work. It is interesting to think about though.

The ultimate tipping point will probably be the character evaluation.

Terry Foster doesn't think there's any merit to Artest rumors:

...and it won't work out. Artest is a nutcase. If we had strong leadership I would say it would be worth a shot (case in point: when we traded for Sheed) but we lost Big Ben, Chauncey has proven he isn't a true leader, and we are now having issues with Sheed.

If Davidson couldn't forgive Larry Brown, a man who won a title for him, then it is highly doubtful that he forgives Ron Artest. It would be fun to see what would happen though. But I'm 99% sure that if I were in Joe's chair, I would not take this gamble, even if Davidson was on board. That would be one of the few posible mistakes that could cost him his job and ruin his reputation.

There are quite a few variables. How good can Sharpe be? Can Artest finally mature? So many questions, so little answers...

Why would Artest mature now? He is near the end of his career, hardly a rook.

Sharpe CAN be very good. Will he? I have no idea. I have a "diamond in the rough" feeling about him, but I think we are going to need a couple of years to find that out for sure.
