People, people. Calm down. You're getting this all wrong.

    1) Phil accepted this "consulting" position because it's a big fat pay-check for little work.. and that's how Phil rolls.. and will probably continue to roll.. (if as a GM, coasting, which is why I wouldn't want to bring him into a small market as a GM. A role like that demands a tireless, 20-hours-a-day work-ethic).

    2) Gores brought Phil in because A) He doesn't trust Joe-D to do his job (the man doesn't like to lose $$$, and he takes care of his investments); B) It gets his own name in the papers (ego-maniac); and C) It's good press for the Pistons.

    3) I'd imagine that Phil just recommends his ex-assistant, Brian Shaw.

The only advice that Phil Jackson can give the Pistons is:
Have the best player on the planet on your team and surround him with 2-3 other all-stars.

Wow! The Zen-master is a genius. I can't believe that nobody else has ever put that formula together before.

Tell Phil to collect his P.R. check and go away.

    CALM DOWN, MY AUNT FANNY!!!
This is without a doubt one of the stupidest moments in Piston History. This would be like me asking my archenemy (for those of you who dont remember from our battles with the Spurs- ITS TONY PARKER!!) to set me up with Eva Longoria's replacement!!! This is ludracis!! Its a nightmare. It jusr CANT be happening!!!

    PISTONS ALL TIME DUMMEST MOVES:

    1. DRAFTING DRAKO INSTEAD OF MY MOM
    2. SIGNING MARVIN BARNES WITH 4TH PICK OF ABA DRAFT
    3. HIRING DICK VITALE WHICH LED TO..
    4. ACQUIRING BOB MCADOO FOR WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN KEVIN MCHALE'S DRAFT PICK
    5. PHIL JACKSON TO PICK YOUR HEAD COACH (DUH?? CAN SOMEONE SAY-HERE COMES BRIAN SHAW???)
    6. LETTING LARRY BROWN GO BEFORE ONE MORE TITLE RUN
    7. WALKING OFF THE COURT VS BULLS (if RedWings could shake that Colorado a-holes hand ,Isiah could have shook jordan's)
    8. GORDON AND VILLANUEVA
    9. LETTING STUCKEY HAVE THE FREEKING AUDACITY TO WEAR BEN WALLACE'S NUMBER THREE!!!!!!!

You really think Phil Jackson is going to sabotage our selection for his own benefit?

I think that all of us can't stand Jackson. But...

He wins wherever he goes. That's just plain fact. As for WHY its up for debate.

Jackson to me is a hoe. A mercenary. A guy who sells his services to anyone who pays him enough or that will add to his legacy. THAT, Sir, is his motivation.

He must think he can make winners of the Pistons, or despite his friendship with Gores, and despite the money ( he is likely filthy rich and doesn't need it), he would not have taken the job.

He probably does hate the Pistons but Rodman hated the Bulls, but "irregardless" it didn't affect HIS play apparently, and what was the result for Chicago?

"Dumards"bleeds Piston colors but the team under his leadership has sucked the last few years. Gores can't fire Joe. It would kind of be like Illitch getting rid of Ernie. I don't think any of us felt comfortable with "Dumards" at the helm. The Piston in me threw up a little bit when I learned of this, but I think it was a trig move by Gores.

Guys, this is an unpaid favor that Phil is doing for Tom (as far as we know).

Phil Jackson to help Detroit Pistons find next head coach - ESPN

    Anything else is total speculation.

Good ones...I can add a couple of more'
    11. Drafting Rodney White at # 9 in the 2001 draft thus allowing the Celtics to pick Joe Johnson next while Zach Randolph and Tony Parker are still on the board sitting at the draft table with their families..
    12. Trading Billups and Aflollo for Allen CapSpace, he's done Iverson.

    P. Jackson is in a wheel chair.
Nice to know Gores has serious Bball connections. I wonder how they became friends ?
TB, Gores can fire Dumars because like Ernie H. he has one foot in the grave. All these coaches get at least one years severance @~$3M per.

I can stand him, like him actually. As to whether he's a garden implement, your description sounds more like someone with a job than a mercenary to me.

His run with the Bulls wasn't to add to his legacy - he didn't have one - and it was certainly no sure thing that team would succeed with him at the helm. Collins couldn't get it done and by anyone's reckoning he was the superior coach as the time. And there's not a coach in existence who wouldn't have taken the Lakers' job so his taking it just tells you his motivations are no different than anyone else's.

I like Jackson and not just cause he lives down the road here in Montana.
I also talked to my wife to see what she thought.............
She believes Jackson is helping only for a coach selection and that he'll pick a diamond in the rough.

I just hope Jackson's open minded and won't harbor any grudges against coaches he came up short against so someone qualified like Herb Brown isn't left by the side of the road.

I like your wife better than I do you. She's a lot smarter. Although in my case, it's like the pot calling the kettle black.

I dont think we will have a problem. Some people are professional and realize that its ok that the Pistons beat the bulls 30 years ago - unless you are Jordan of course. Or a Bulls fan
